Learning Outcomes
At the successful completion of the subject, the students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of fundamentals ideas of financial management for
entrepreneurs, concepts such as cash flow, financial statements, financial ratios, and
time value for money, capital budgeting and net present value.
- Go through the process of securing entrepreneur’s intellectual property, including
patents, trademarks, copy rights and trade secrets.
- Analyze an industry and identify opportunities for new products/services along with
marketing tactics and strategies.
- Identify human resource needs for an organization and acquire and maintain required
people.
Outline Syllabus
1. Overview of Corporate Finance: Introduction to corporate finance; Financial
statements/taxes/cash flow.
2. Financial statements and long-term financial planning: Working with financial
statements and real world applications; Long-term financial planning and growth
3. Valuation of cash flows: Time value for money; Net present value
4. Risk management; Risk identification, risk analysis and risk response;
5. Patents, trade secrets and copy rights: Introduction to business law; Patents and
procedure for obtaining patents; Trade secrets, copy rights and trade marks

Assignment 01: Organizing a guest lecture

All the participants will be grouped into two large groups (around 15 members per each) and
advised to organize two guest lectures on sessions 12, and 13 on the assigned topic. The group is
responsible for selecting a good guest speaker with the sound knowledge and experience in the
relevant topic, inviting him/ her as per in the schedule, organizing the lecture with proper
arrangements and reporting back to the lecturer with a written report of the tasks completed.
Group members will be evaluated with the effectiveness of the tasks they carried out for the
success of the guest lecture. Total marks allocated for the group work is 15.

Assignment 02 & 03: Case Study Analysis Report and Presentation

Students are advised to make 05 members groups to carry out this assignment. You want to study
an entrepreneur (or an entrepreneurial business) to understand how the finance, marketing, HR
and operations management functions are carried out to understand the gaps in the theory and the
practice. Students want to write a case (maximum 25 typed pages of A4 size) on the study and
make oral presentation to the class as scheduled in the session plan. 45 minutes allocated for the
presentations and participation of all the students is compulsory. Total marks allocated for the
written report is 15 and for the oral presentation is 10.
