Eirini Tougli: High pay is not enough for job satisfaction.

Whether good salary is an incentive to do somebody a job he does not

like is purely subjective question. An important factor which should be
studied is the status of the individual. For example, at what age the
individual is, if it is single or married with one or more children or if it
has any bachelor. Significant role, also plays the personality and
perception of the individual, as well as, its aspirations . All the above are
elements , that could force someone to do an unpleasant for him job.

Performance of employees depends of a combination of things for being

efficient within the workplace and with their customers. The high salary
is not enough to keep employees dedicated and loyal to the company. At
least not long term. Every employee would like to feel that his salary is
equitable, of course. But employees care more about to have a truly and
trustworthy relationship with their managers in order to cooperate well ,
as a team, with same vision, and goals. However, the best ways for a
manager to keep employees motivated, committed and productive, is to
take a real interest for employees and to be connected with them.
Manager has to build a relationship of trust with the employees, so that
they have the opportunity to exchange opinions about the difficulties
they face in the job, the mistakes were made, and any alternative idea
may an employee has for the improving the work. (Gordontraining.com,

In any company, employees want to admire the leader as an example for

his skills, which act as a link that does not let anyone to fall down. So, a
good manager should inspire his employees, having also the required
listening skills, in order to help them effectively. However, it is extremely
important to place trust on them, that they will do their best, by
providing support and guidance and giving them all the responsibility
and autonomy.Nevertheless , all employees want to believe that will rise
up within the companies that they work. They need to feel that
opportunities for personal growth and recognition are offered. That is
the reason why managers should provide feedback about employees’
performance, in order to know if they were efficient or did any mistake.

Many people promote the cliche that rewarding people for being good
at their jobs, would be dedicated to them. A social research proved
exactly the opposite. What any organization really wants is to change
permanently employees’ attitude to a professional with values, qualities
and capabilities. A psychology research agree that rewards change the
employee’s behavior temporary . The social scientific Alfie Kohn, after
her observations at Harvard Business Review, claims that money
rewards and any kind of perks is the worst strategy for changing
behavior long-term. (Business Insider, 2019)

However, the good salary offers status, security and conveniences, but
it does not necessarily means that this will increase employees’
performance. The best inspired people that are efficient, productive and
loyal are not the best paid, but those who are engaged with their work.
Employees want incentives, such as opportunities, personal and
professional growth, recognition and challenging work. At the same
time, it is really important employees feel happy, secured, respected and
that they are treated nicely and rightly within the organization because,
this lead to the best excellence, trustworthy relationships, and the
acquisition of loyal employees. (Business Insider, 2019)

Consequently for all the above, i believe that employees would not be
dedicated to Trader Joe’s if he would not provide opportunities for
personal and professional development. The high pay also would not be
enough to keep the employees , because people always believe that
they deserve something better and always hope that they will be
upgraded in any work. Because recognition sometimes is more
important and powerful than money.
