Hebron golf takes on UIL State

Senior Jennie Park and the boys golf team will compete at the UIL State
tournament on May 13-14 and May 20-21 at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.
“It’s a lot of more pressure, but at the same time we have more fun with it,” Park
said. “It’s the highest place we can get to, and we worked to get there.”
This is Park’s fourth year advancing to state, and her skills have improved since
freshman year for better performance. Her inspiration and passion in golf started early
on.
“My parents have been playing for a long time,” Park said. “When I was young, I
would go out with them. And it became interesting to me.”
The boys golf team advanced to state after they won first place at UIL Regionals.
“I was really happy because it was the first time we did it in 14 years,” senior
Derek Hamilton said. “It’s also my senior year, so it makes it even more special.”
At state tournaments, many college recruiters come to watch the groups. Coach
Terie Campbell recognizes that they are finding these students for future recruits.
“They will be wearing their TCU, OU, UCLA clothes, so you know they are a
college coach or assistant coach,” Campbell said. “Even though they are not after you,
they are still watching you because they’ve heard about you or you’re there for a
reason. It’s the highest accolade you can get in high school.”
Campbell acknowledges the accomplishments the Hebron golf team have made.
She sees the effect of the students’ hard work.
“It has raised the level; the girls have been at the high level and state ranked for
years,” Campbell said. “Now the boys are being talked about, talked to, and we are
getting invites to tournaments.”
