1. My outline would include the following:
a. Introduction
i. The purpose of the study is to investigate how collaboration between a
classroom teacher and a librarian influences student learning.

b. Literature review
i. Existing research shows increased student test scores when a
classroom teacher collaborates with the librarian.
c. Methodology
i. This was a mixed-methods research where I was a participant in the
research. I collected quantitative data from second graders as well as
survey data from the second grade teacher and her students.
d. Findings and results
i. The findings and results mirrored that of existing literature. Students
scores increased as did their engagement. Teachers also had an
improved outlook on collaboration.
e. Discussion
i. Implications of this study show that more teachers and librarians
should collaborate. It should also be noted that this could be evidence
for a change needed in my district.
f. References
i. With more than 13 examples, many of these studies discussed
challenges, benefits, and examples of collaboration between teachers
and librarians.

2. The significance of this study is very applicable to my practice and professional

growth. One of my jobs as a librarian is to provide a service to my teachers and
students. This study is the perfect example of how to provide this to both teachers
and students at the same time. It also allows me to build better relationships with
my colleagues and my students.

3. I can implement these findings in my own practice by continuing to collaborate with

other teachers in my building as well as help other librarians provide the same to
their teachers. One way I can do this would be to talk to teachers about the results
of my first study and find a way or topic for us to explore together to improve
student learning.
4. One change I might make is to instead of limit myself to one teacher and one class,
do a collaborative research project with either an entire grade level (3 classes of 25)
or with one of our Pod’s. Our K-2 students are divided into 3 pods where each pod
has one Kinder, one first grade, and one second grade class in each. Our 3-5
students are divided into 2 pods of four classes each. I think having a larger sample
would allow for a more accurate finding, but would also encourage learning across
grade levels rather than limiting it to one grade.
