The world needs to find a way to effectively get rid of trash that is better for the
environment. The problem that is at hand is the waste productions are going through the roof and
making places throughout the world almost unlivable. There has to be a way that people can
effectively get rid of waste that is better for the environment. This is becoming a worldwide issue
that has to be addressed. This topic is important for people to know about because this is no
longer just big city problems it is a problem people are facing everywhere and there needs to be a
way to fix it. The world need to find an effective way to fix our growing waste problem, this has
a big impact on today’s environment, our waste production is growing, everyone is struggling to
find a way to deal with it, and people need to consider the effect this will have in the long run.

produce. Now the world produces about 300 million tons of plastic waste a year. So much food
is wasted it is difficult to imagine what could happen with the food if it wasn’t wasted. For
instance in the article 40 Reasons to Think Differently About Your Trash it states “Americans
throw away 43,000 tons of food a day, about one-third of the food produced for human
consumption is wasted each year, the amount of food lost or wasted in Latin America could feed
300 million people, in Europe it could feed 200 million people, and in Africa it could feed 300
million people.” So now it has been figured out that if the world wasted less food it could help
people struggling and dying of starvation if the amount of wasted food goes down it might
change the problem with waste production as well. It is approximated that there are about 14
million pounds of trash dumped into the ocean each year most of it plastic. As stated in an article
by Sea Stewards. The problem is Americans produce 10.5 millions tons of plastic waste a year
but only recycle about 1 to 2% of it. Plastic waste is a growing problem around the world and we
need to find ways to take care of it. People are trying to reduce plastic waste but if the world
really wants to address the crisis at hand everyone will need to cooperate.

All around the world people are starting to be affected by the growing waste problem.
One of the biggest places being affected is India as stated from the article Global Garbage: How
5 Influential Countries are Combating Issues with Waste “With a population of 1.252 billion and
growing, India has trouble managing solid waste. The result is not a pretty picture. Nearly 19
million metric tons of trash are being littered on streets or waterways, or being burned illegally.”
This is a growing problem in India luckily they are finding ways to deal with it. Country #2 that
hasn’t been mentioned yet that is dealing with this problem is Brazil “In 2009, Rio de Janeiro
submitted a final bid to the International Olympic Committee for the chance to host the 2016
summer Olympics. Of course, clean water venues was a must for the bid to be accepted.
Therefore Rio made a seven-year commitment to collect and treat sewage, combat pollution, and
create a clean host city for the Olympic Games. Four months out from the Games, Rio, by many
accounts, is in trouble. "The problem is the trash," Luiz Lima, a two-time Brazilian Olympic
swim team member, said to ESPN. "People in Brazil don't put trash in the trash." This quote was
taken from the article Global Garbage: How 5 Influential Countries are Combating Issues with
Waste. This shows that places all around the world are struggling to deal with their growing trash
production.

problem, but some places are starting to find solutions. China is starting to find ways to deal
with waste. “Shenzhen, China — one of the world's fastest growing cities — will become home
to more than 12 million people by 2025. In order to deal with the population and its waste, it has
announced plans to build the world's largest waste-to-energy facility measuring nearly one mile
in circumference.” As stated in the article Global Garbage: How 5 Influential Countries are
Combating Issues with Waste. This shows that places all around the world that are the most
affected by growing trash and waste productions are finding successful ways to deal with it that
is taking care little by little to fix our growing problem. Another country that is affected is France
as also stated in Global Garbage: How 5 Influential Countries are Combating Issues with Waste
“In an unprecedented motion, France became the world's first country to ban supermarket food
waste and mandate large retailers to donate leftover food. This law, passed in February, marks
the first legislation of its kind in the global effort to reduce food waste — an issue affecting
every country across the world.” This is a way that France is trying and is successful in making
their waste production go down we need to start making this happen in other places around the
world.

Everywhere throughout our globe our waste production is becoming a growing problem
and is affecting the environment, and the people, and/or animals living in it. This started as a
problem for only some countries but has become a global issue. The growing waste problem is a
very difficult problem to deal with when not everyone is trying to fix this growing problem.
Countries all around the world are being affected by this problem. Bigger countries that are being
affected by this problem but they are finding ways to cope with it and are starting to solve their
growing trash problems. All over the world people are trying to find ways that they can deal with
the growing trash problem. If people could just try and get more of the world’s population
onboard there might still be a chance to fix our growing waste problem.
