BFC 43003 - STRUCTURAL STEEL AND TIMBER D IGN

PROJECT
D IGN OF A 3-STOREY FRAME

Introduction

This project cover the design of a 3-storey braced steel-framed building. In particular, it
should gives detailed design for primary and secondary beams, an internal column, truss
members and a number of different connection types.

Figure  1  shows  detail  of  the  3-storey  building,  representing  a  small,  2-storey  office
development constructed over a showroom.

Figure 1 Typical cross-section

Figure 2 shows a typical part plan. Details of the construction are follows:

1. Floor (office use) – Raised floor on 125 mm concrete on profiled metal decking

2. External wall – Proprietary cladding

3. Fire protection – 4 hour fire rating between ground floor and 1st floor

- 2 hour fire rating between 1st floor and roof

4. Bracing – The building is braced against side-sway
