Please be advised that on March 5, 2018, the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office for Child Abuse
Investigation and Review (CAIR) received an allegation from Attorney Jeanine Stevens that her
client, was sexually abused when he was 14 and 15 years old by Reverend
John P. Smyth, while was a resident at Maryville Academy. Ms. Stevens reported
that is incarcerated at Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, Illinois.

Please be advised that on January 22, 2019, Leah McCluskey of the Archdiocese of Chicago's
Office for Child Abuse Investigations and Review (CAIR) received a phone call from Attorney
Jeanine Stevens identifying a new client, in an allegation of sexua l abuse of a
minor against Reverend John P. Smyth. Per Ms. Stevens, on January 21 , 2019,
contacted her to schedule a meeting with her. Ms. Stevens has requested the services of the Office
of Assistance Ministry for and has asked Ms. McCluskey to schedule a meeting so that
can formalize his allegation of abuse against Fr. Smyth. Fr. Smyth is a retired priest of
the Archdiocese of Chicago. He was placed on limited ministry with restrictions in July 2018 and
removed from public ministry in December 201 8.

Please be advised that on January 23, 2019, Leah McCluskey of the Archdiocese of Chicago's
Office for Child Abuse Investigation and Review (CAIR) received a phone call from Attorney Eugene
Hollander identifying a new client, in an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor against
Reverend John Smyth. Per Mr. Hollander, was sexually abused by Fr. Smyth on
approximately six occasions when resided at Maryville Academy from the time
was approximately 14- 15 years old . Mr. Hollander informed Ms. McCluskey that was
interested in meeting with her personally to formalize his allegation of abuse against Fr. Smyth. Fr.
Smyth is a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. He was placed on limited ministry with
restrictions in July 2018 and removed from public ministry in December 2018.

Office for Child Abuse Investigations and Review (CAIR) received a phone call from Attorney
Jeanine Stevens identifying a new client, in an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor
against Reverend John P. Smyth. Ms. McCluskey explained to Ms. Stevens that the archdiocesan
investigation of this matter is suspended due to the fact that Fr. Smyth is the subject of a current
DCFS investigation. She also informed Ms. Stevens that the services of the Archdiocese of
Chicago's Office of Assistance Ministry are available to if needed. Per Ms. Stevens,
date of birth is Fr. Smyth is a retired priest of the Archdiocese of
Chicago. He was placed on limited ministry with restrictions in July 2018 and removed from public

Please be advised that on February 15, 2019, Leah McCluskey of the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office for
Child Abuse Investigations and Review (CAIR) received an email from Attorney Jeanine Stevens to report
that she has spoken with a male who reported to her that he was molested by Reverend John P. Smyth
while at Maryville Academy in the late 1970s. Based upon information provided by Ms. Stevens, the
alleged victim is currently over the age of 18. Ms. Stevens expressed her concerns over the wellbeing of
the adult male because he frequently speaks about hurting himself.
Tom Tharayil of the Office of Assistance Ministry suggested that Ms. Stevens call 911 if she continues to
be concerned by what the unidentified male says so that he can be evaluated and be treated by a
medical professional. Fr. Smyth is a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. He was placed on
limited ministry with restrictions in July 2018 and removed from public ministry in December 2018.
We do not have any additional information from Ms. Stevens regarding the alleged unidentified male
victim .

Investigations and Review (CAIR) received an allegation from Attorney Jeanine Stevens that
her client, Unidentified, was allegedly sexually abused as a minor by Reverend John Smyth,
while her client was a resident at Maryville Academy. On April 16, 2018, Ms. Stevens called
CAIR and identified her client as is currently incarcerated
at Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Per an Inmate Search via the Illinois
