Calibration procedure for the MS76

Tools needed

Tone generator (You can send a tone from your computer or phone or…)
A small screwdriver

While calibrating

Make sure that ”All” mode is bypassed

Make sure that unit is set to dual mono (Not M/S)
Make sure the unit is powered on

Calibrate Q-bias

1. Set compression to bypass

2. Dial the Q-bias trimmer on the PCB fully right. (Clockwise (CW))
3. Set the meter to VU IN
4. Send a 1Khz (or thereabouts) sine wave to the unit
5. Adjust the volume (from your source), so the meter reads 0dB
6. Switch meter to VU out mode
7. Set input pot on the unit to 12 o’clock
8. Adjust output pot, so the meter reads 0dB
9. Dial the Q-bias trimmer counter clockwise until the meter reads -1dB

Setting gain reduction tracking and Zero dB

10. Set compression to bypass

11. Set the meter to GR
12. Adjust Zero trimmer on PCB, so the needle rests on 0dB
13. Set meter to VU in
14. Send a 1Khz (or thereabouts) sine wave to the unit
15. Adjust the volume (from the source) so the meter reads 0dB
16. Set meter to VU out
17. Set input pot on the unit to 9 o’clock
18. Adjust output, so the meter reads 0dB
19. Switch in compression
20. Read level in VU out mode.
21. Switch meter to GR
22. Match needle position in GR mode with level in VU out
(toggle back and forth between VU and GR to check, and get them to match)
23. Switch compression out.
24. Set meter in GR mode

If the meter no longer rests on 0dB in GR mode! - Adjusting the tracking

(TRK) may cause the 0dB resting point in GR mode to drift. In that case, you will have to go back
and repeat from step 12-24 (Repeat until balance is achieved)
