Social Studies

Students are currently


completing an assignment
where they work for the
Canadian government and
teach new immigrants
about what it means to live
in a
democracy. Afterwards,
we will be starting our
investigation into Athenian
democracy.

Language Arts
Reading- students are finishing up
our Literature Circle novel study on

GRADE 6 NEWS “Hatchet”. We will wrap it up with a


poster or play project. Our first book
report is Due on November 29th.

Exciting things happening in Grade 6 Writing- students are currently


working on a Parts of Speech
As we enter our third month of school, everyone seems to be

settling in nicely! Routines have been set and the classes seem to throughout the unit. We will start

Math:
Word Work- we continue with our

ensure students had a good handle on their basic facts. All students .

assessment. Our next unit is Numeration. Students will be our “Air & Aerodynamics” unit,
encouraged to utilize place value sheets to help solidify their students are working on a

Math
Religion:
We completed our first unit about friendship and students created a lantern as a symbol of light. We
are beginning to work though our second unit (Created in the image of God). Students will work on a
mini project, creating a mural for the story of Moses. We’ll begin our third unit this month as well (I
shall be your God; you shall be my people); where we’ll learn what a covenant is and study the 10
commandments

Options:
Coding 6: In Coding Option, students have been learning how to recognize tasks that should use
loops instead of just repeating the same code, learning how to debug programs and how to recognize
a pattern and use nested loops.

Art 6 – In Art, the students have been exploring a variety of mediums to create some beautiful and
interesting pieces. They painted watercolour pumpkins using their knowledge of line and value to
demonstrate a 3-D image. In our sculpture unit, students formed masks over balloons with paper
mache and embellished the painted product with feathers, glitter and jewels. The final results are
spectacular! Our next projects will explore print making and the variations within.

Robotics 6- In Robotics kids have been programing their robots to do a variety of tasks and
challenges. We will next be working on programing our robots to do more difficult tasks with multiple
steps.

Band 6: The students are off to a great start. We are working on playing in tune, using proper
embouchure, and the fingering for the first 5 notes. Students are encouraged to practice several
times a week with their method book to ensure continued results. The band room is open at lunch for
anyone that would like to practice or would like some one on one help.
French: The students in grade 6 will work on "My Health and Well-being", this month, by looking at
expressing feelings and emotions in French; feeling well and feeling ill; and healthy eating. In
addition, the class will also be introduced to Remembrance Day vocabulary.
Health: This past month, students have been working on the theme of “feelings” and “emotions. They
created a “Champions” poster.
