MOTIVATION

Energy is one of the most crucial factor for developing country. Access to energy has
increasingly been provided by some governments through new alternative sources of energy
known as renewable energy (primarily hydropower, solar, biomass, wind, geothermal).
Renewable energy are becoming popular as stand-alone power systems and also strategic
energy source for providing clean, reliable, affordable and sustainable energy or electricity in
some remote areas due to advances in renewable energy technologies. According to the
International Energy Agency, the world added more renewables-based power generation
capacity in 2015 than all other technologies combined for the first time ever, and this
movement is only expected to accelerate over the coming decades. In its baseline New
Policies Scenario, the IEA predicts that by 2040, total global generation capacity will increase
by more than 60%, and renewables will make up over 45% of that total. 1

Renewable energy hybrid power plants can combine one or more sources of renewable
power generation with either one another and/or the storage (battery or pumped) to provide
increased system efficiency as well as greater balance in energy supply.[2] Successful results
have already been obtained with hybrid systems worldwide. Rural communities without hope
to be connected to the public grid (at least not in the medium term), lacking resources to keep
up with the fuel prices or with unused diesel infrastructures, have found on hybrid systems the
most suitable, environmentally friendly and cost competitive solution for power delivery. For
example, the installation of Photovoltaic/wind//diesel hybrid system was made at 2002
located in China giving a great performance and example to the world. It helps providing
electricity to 3 villages composed of 500 households, community services (clinic, school,
postal office, TV transferring station) and a tourist facility. [3]

For this project, hybrid power system was chosen as our renewable energy. Hydro and
solar energy and their complementary generation profiles, for instance with solar available
during the day and water being more available at night. Resulting power that’s more
affordable, reliable, and sustainable. Each application is unique, and the hybrid solution that
works best for a specific situation will depend on numerous.
