EMMELINE PANKHURST

Was a principal fighter for women’s equality in the UK


Women weren’t given ability to vote cause they were considered to be incapable of rational thought.
Their place was in the home.
She belonged to the Suffragists-they wanted to achieve uqual voting rights for women by peaceful
means. Later she was a leader of the Suffragaists-she had a more militant approach.
Their tactics to get(attract) attention were smashing shop windows,burning down buildings,slashing
paintings in the galleries,organizing marches and chaining themselves to the railings.
She was sent to prison 3 times.She went on hungry strike so she experienced force feeding.
British govnerment changed law on voting rights for women in 1918. In 1928 women finally achieved
equal voting rights to men.

She said that they arent the law breakers, that they are to become law makers.
People said that they are hysterical and unreasonable and that they abonded their duties as mothers
and as wives.

ELVIS PRESLEY
Was knows as THE KING. When he arrived on the scene it was something new cause he introduced a
new rhythm to music. Before him adolescent kids were dressing as their parents,he shook his hips
and changed everything. One generation was mesmeraized, and at the same time he alienated
another.

He said if you like rock n roll and if you feel it you cant help but move to it
They said that he was uninterested person and that he will be totally forgotten in five years time.

Spent years observing the movements of the plants through a telescope.IT was generally thought
that the earth was the centre of the universe. He believed that the earth rotated on its axis once
daily and traveled round the sun once every year.
In 1633 he was found guilty of hersey and he spent his final years imprisoned in his own house.

He said all truths are easy to understand once they are discovered.
They said teory that the sun is in the centre of the world is absurd.

CHARLES DARVIN
His book is the book that shook the world.
He believed that all species werent created induvidually,but evolved millions of years through a
process of natural selection.
Species that could adapt best were ones that survived.
SIGMUND FREUD
Father of the psychoanalysis
He believed that we all have unconscious mind as well as conscious one. Unconscious is were our
fears are buried- especially memories from childhood.
He underminded the belief that we are in control of our actions ,thoughts and behaviours at all
times.
