Bee happy?

Bees are our future, present, and past and without them we won't have a future. I believe we all
need to do ur best to preserve the bees and here’s why. For starters, it's mostly our fault that
they’re dying in the first place. They were here before us so what gives us the right to just let
them die and go extinct?

When I was six I was stung by a bee right on my chin. I decided right there I would hate bees
because “they were scary and dangerous”, but as I got older I began to learn about how essential
they are to the environment and how I only got stung becasue the bee was using its stinger as a
defense mechanism. I hope this article helps you realize what bees can do.

In many parts of the world, large numbers of bee colonies have been dying, this is because of a
syndrome some have referred to as colony collapse disorder (CCD). CCD is where a large
majority of worker bees in a colony disappear, leaving behind plenty of food and it leaves few
nurse bees to care for the queen and the remaining infant bees. To this day scientists are
struggling to find why this happens, and how we can fix it. Bees may seem small and some times
vicious with their stinger but they are just trying to do there job and pollinate.

Despite a world population of between 80 million and 100 million domesticated hives, each
containing 10,000 to 60,000 bees, numbers are decreasing rapidly. One-third of the UK's (United
Kingdoms) bee population has disappeared over the past decade and 24 percent of Europe's
bumblebees are now as risk of extinction.
“Without insect pollination, about one third of the crops we eat would have to be pollinated by
other means or they would produce significantly less food” - Greenpeace International

Some may argue that, we don’t need bees or they won't go extinct or they don’t matter because
what they do we can too. But in reality we can't.

One out of every three bites you put in your mouth was pollinated by honeybees. In addition to
pollinating crops such as apples, almonds, broccoli strawberries, cucumbers and cotton, bees also
pollinate alfalfa seeds which are used for beef and dairy feed contributing to livestock.

And it's incredibly easy to help bees by doing the following: y ou can volunteer to p lant a bee
garden or create a habitat including nectar-rich plants. You can establish these humble adobes in
small spaces like balconies or street corners. Flowers can be planted along roadways and other
public areas if they allow so. Artificial toxic-pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides are harmful to
bees so its best not to use them, but if you can't go without organic pesticide options are also good
especially if you were to spray at night when bees are less active. Bees need trees to hold their
colonies as well, so it would be ideal to plant trees if you could. But overall, if you just choose to
care a little more it can go a long way.
