Directions:
I. WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
1. An empty cereal box
2. Markers, color pencils, crayons, glue, etc.
3. Access to computers, Internet, printer.

II. SIDES OF THE BOX


A. SIDE 1: FRONT
1. Title: the title must identify the product as a cereal, but also reveal what the historical
topic is.
2. You can use names of people, events, or key terms in the name. For example: Cash &
Carry Crispies (You cannot use this example for your project!)
3. On the front of the box, you must draw the name of your cereal. In addition, there
should be pictures of people and events, maps, or other graphics that go with the theme
of your cereal.
B. SIDE 2: BACK
1. Puzzle/Game: Students will design a simple puzzle or a game that involves 10-15
vocabulary words or important people that relate to their topic. These word puzzles can
be in the form of a word scramble, word search, or crossword puzzle, or other
game/activity of the student’s choice that makes use of the terms. Clues must be given
for each word used.

C. SIDE 3: Nutrition Facts Side:
1. Students will recreate the nutrition label to contain facts about their subject
2. This side must look just like a real nutrition label with categories and facts that teach a
consumer about the HISTORICAL TOPIC
D. SIDE 4: Gimmick
1. Students will persuade customers to buy their cereal by designing their own
advertisement that motivates the customer to buy their cereal such as a: toy,
coupon, mail in rebate, box top for public schools, free item, etc.
2. This advertisement must demonstrate the student understands the main idea of their
topic and its importance to World History.
3. Example: Concept=Fasicsm
“Be the first on your block to collect ALL fascist leaders, and win a prize.”
E. SIDE 5: Top of the Box
1. Must have the students name and period and be consistent with the rest of the box’s
decoration.
F. SIDE 6: Works Cited
1. Students must have at least 3 sources
2. Students must cite the sources appropriately in
MLA format.
3. Students must use proper sources: NO
WIKIPEDIA!

V. REQUIREMENTS
A. All parts of the box are covered and incorporated into your design.
B. No part of the original cereal box is visible.
C. Student must have their name and period on the top.
D. Student must have an MLA works cited page on the box.
E. Student must follow the diagram above.
F. Student must include only information that has to do with their Cold War topic.
G. Student may not display or design any inappropriate images or information on any part of
their project.

A. Quality of Construction (Is it falling apart or smooth and seamless?)
B. Use of Color (Eyesore, mismatch of color or coordinated and pleasing to the eye?)
