Histogram- a diagram made out of rectangles whose area is proportional to the frequency of
the variable.
Shutter speed- length of time in which the film or digits sensor is exposed to light.
Depth of Field- the distance between the nearest object and the furthest ones.
Aperture Priority- the only thing that can be manually changed is the aperture.
Shutter Priority- the only setting that can be changed manually is the shutter speed.
Exposure- the total amount of light permitted to reach the digital sensor while taking a
picture.
Watermarking- to mark work with a watermark (faint design made in paper during
manufacturing and can only be seen when held against light).
Bracketing- taking several pictures of the same object with different camera settings.
Noise- a variation of brightness or color in an image, that may make it look grainy.
Hot shoe- mounting point on top of the camera where the flash is attached.
Telephoto- long-focus lens, whose physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length.
Wide angle- lens whose focal length is smaller than the common lenses.
DSLR- a digital still camera that uses a single lens reflex mechanism.
Dynamic Range- a measure of the range of light intensities from shadows to the highlights.
Digital negative- imaging specification that provides for long-term storage of digital
photographs generated in multiple proprietary formats.
Exposure compensation- used to alter the exposure from the one that was selected by the
camera, making the pictures brighter or darker.
