Mrs. Dugan
3/27/19
To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, you must do a few
things. These include teaching children safe practices to reduce injuries, teaching children about
good nutrition, and organizing relationships and routines. As a big jag, we are responsible for
Safety is a key factor when it comes to taking care of the little jags. In our classroom, we
make sure to keep it a safe place. Everyday before the kids come into our classroom, we make
sure to vacuum because we do not want any sharp items on the group. If there are safety pins
on the carpet, this can injure the children. We have outlet covers on our outlets because we do
not want to electrocute the kids and we also have a first aid kid. If a child falls outside, they
might start to bleed so we bring them inside and get them whatever they need. If they get a bee
sting outside, we bring them inside right away and run the sting under cold water. Also, when
the children are playing outside, we make sure they have a helmet on their head while riding a
bike in case they fall. If a child was to start acting different, or have any types of random bruises
on their body, the big jags were taught to tell Mrs. Dugan right away, and not question the child.
Another safety issue is posting on social media. We have the app seesaw for the parents to see
pictures of their child. Brendan, my little jag, loves when I take pictures of him for seesaw.
Being healthy is another key factor when it comes to taking care of the little jags. In our
classroom, the children are taught to wash their hands before snack time, after the bathroom,
and after they get their hands dirty from arts and crafts. They wash their hands while saying the
ABC’s, and they make sure to clean between their fingers. We have an epipen in our classroom
in case someone has an allergic reaction and we also check their allergies before we buy food.
We do this because we want to limit the risk of someone having an allergic reaction. The three
most common allergies are milk, eggs, and peanuts. We can tell if someone is having an
allergic reaction if they start to get a rash, get itchy, or have a difficult time breathing. Luckily, we
do not have any allergies with the little jags this year. We teach the little jags to cough with their
elbow over their mouth so they do not give other people germs, and we also make sure they do
not put dirty toys or objects in their mouth. To keep their eating style healthy, we make sure they
have a small snack and have light apple juice with the option of water.
The learning environment in our classroom is set up perfectly for the children. We make
sure they have four categories of learning environments. These categories include quiet, active,
wet, and dry. A quiet learning environment consists of reading a book or drawing. These
activities are considered quiet because they help the children calm down. An active learning
environment is the playground. Outside, the kids are always running around, playing on the
playground, going down the slide, playing sports, and socializing. It is very important that the
kids maintain relationships and can play with each other. A wet learning environment consists of
painting, arts and crafts, or anything that gets your hands dirty. The wet learning area is usually
located towards a sink in case their hands get painty and they need to wash them off. A dry
learning environment consists of drawing or writing stuff down. This helps the children express
their ideas, or learn to write letters. A very important thing we teach the little jags is to be
independent. An example of teaching them to be independent is to make sure they get their
house plates and cups, put their snacks on their plates, and fill up their cups by themselves.
This teaches the kids to grow up maturely and learn how to do things on their own without
for kids as they grow up. Being safe is a key factor because it limits the risk of injuries. A healthy
environment is important because it teaches them about nutrition and promotes wellness.
Relationships, materials, and daily routines help promote exploration and play which creates the
