Objectives This subject provides students with:

1. in-depth knowledge of the design of jig and fixture,tool,die and injection mold
2. developing skills in collaboration, communication critical thinking and creativity of
subject matter
3. The ability to evaluate the effects of tooling design on the quality of finished
products.
Intended Learning Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:
Outcomes - to identify types of jigs and fixtures, locators and supports, and various work holders
- understand the procedure of Tool Design;
- to bring together the skills learned in above objectives and design jigs and fixtures for
specific tasks;
- to understand the procedure and purposes of Die Making and Die Design.
- Apply contemporary design principles when designing ,molds
-Design mini projects on jig and fixture, tool, die and mold
Content of Syllabus 1. Jig and Fixture Design
Define jig and fixture and its type; Describe supporting and location principles;
clamping and work holding principles. Clamping and Positioning of jigs and
fixtures. Design economics. Designing of jig and fixture body
2. Die design
Define components of die Understanding of sheet metal processes and its die design
principle, deign of die and finally be able to develop mini project.
3. Injection molding die design
Precision mold construction; melt flow analysis; molding ejection; cooling and
warpage; design of mold and developing mould design mini projects
4. Tool classification and design
Teaching/Learning The subject is taught through a combination of lectures and tutorials integrated with

in Alignment with methods/tasks weighting be assessed
Intended Learning
Outcomes

1. Attendance 10%

2. Final exam 30 %

4. Assign.&Mini- projects(#3) 60 % Totally 3 reports will be delivered by

students

Total 100%

The assignments, which are given throughout the course, are designed to facilitate
students to reflect on and apply the in-depth knowledge learnt.

The tests are designed to enable students to demonstrate their learning ability and
comprehension.

Continuous assessment comprises all laboratories, tutorials, assignments, progress tests,

and mini-group projects with presentations and written reports. All assessment
components require students to apply what they have learnt and show their ability to
apply different technologies.
