(Cromita, Platino,
Níquel, Cobre, Oro,
Magnetita)
• Los menos densos,
flotan hacia la parte
superior de la
cámara magmática.

Chromite ore and concentrates derived from chromite ore are further classified
into three categories. These are ore and concentrate containing not more than
40% Cr2O3 (refractory industry), containing more than 40% Cr2O3 but less than
46% Cr2O3 (refractory, chemical and metallurgical industry), and 46% or more
Cr2O3 (metallurgical and chemical industries).

GREAT DYKE EN ZIMBABWE
Imagen ASTER
Archeozonic mafic dyke in Zimbabwe (approx. 2.46billion years). The great dyke is 3-12km wide and stretches out 530km from north-
northeast to south-southwest, crossing the whole southern Zimbabwe region. The image focuses on 80km at the southern edge.

E. CAPAS DE BORDE, CRISTALIZACION IN SITU Y
CONVECCION COMPOSICIONAL
Funciona para cámaras silíceas
viscosas
El magma se enfría desde los
bordes hacia el interior
• El liquido es mas evolucionado
hacia los bordes (donde la
cristalización es casi completa) que
hacia el interior de la cámara
• Los cristales formados permanecen
in-situ y producen inestabilidad
gravitacional, dado que los fundidos
evolucionados son menos densos
(han perdido Fe, Ca, Mg) que los
cristales y que el fundido al interior
de la cámara
• Lo anterior permite que los fundidos
evolucionados asciendan y sean
reemplazados por los fundidos que
se mueven hacia los bordes desde
el interior (compositional convection)
• De esta manera, se puede formar
las capas del borde de las cámaras
magmáticas
Figure 11-12 Formation of boundary layers along
the walls and top of a magma chamber. From
Winter (2001) An Introduction to Igneous and
Metamorphic Petrology. Prentice Hall
Cristalización in situ y convección composicional. La zona superior experimenta
difusión interna e intercambio con la roca caja, mientras que por debajo el sistema
es convectivo.
