Julia Ellen

I have played an active role not only in the school, but also in the local community. During my
time in high school I have been a part of five honor societies. I am a part of French Honor
Society, Mu Alpha Theta, History Honor Society, Science Honor Society and National Honor
Society. For all of these honor societies I have met the club’s academic requirements,
participated in service and enrichment opportunities to lead and serve at school and in the local
community, and served as a peer tutor. I have also been a leader of the French Honor Society
for three years. During my sophomore year I was the secretary of both French Honor Society
and French Club. In the secretary position I assisted the President and Vice President of both
clubs in their roles as well as kept track of attendance and hours for members. My junior and
senior year I have been the President of French Honor Society. Through my time as President I
have helped the French Honor Society to develop a new way to keep track of service hours
through a new point system. I was able to help Madame Roche establish a point system
successfully and I have helped members of the club to find ways to reach out to the French
speaking and non speaking community while gaining service hours for French service hours.

I have also been a part of Operation Wisdom at Heritage. I served as a committee chair and
was responsible for helping to organize the annual Pep Rally for Operation wisdom which is the
club’s annual fundraiser to support the global community. I have also been a part of the theatre
department at Heritage. I have been cast in (5) productions as an Ensemble Dancer and Singer;
cast as an advanced dancer during all productions and assist with teaching dance
choreography. I have helped create and paint set pieces and show props. I was a part of the
‘Elite 8 Dancers’ showcased in select dance numbers. I have also participated in creating
themes and decor for the Theatre Haunted House. I have participated in two Haunted House
events.

I have also participated in numerous means of service within the community. I was nominated to
participate in Youth Leadership Wake Forest. Through this leadership program that was through
the school I was able to learn more about leadership, our local community, and found ways to
give back to said community. After I graduated the program I was asked to assist in planning an
event sponsored by the same group. Heritage was hosting and planning the event (North
Eastern Regional Youth Leadership Conference). I helped to secure speakers, bagged items for
the attendees, created topics of conversation and volunteered my time the day of the event.

I am a large part of my church community and I have given back through my strong involvement
in many programs at my church. I have been a part of the Wake Forest United Methodist
Church Youth Group. I have served as a member of Youth Council which is a team that helps to
make decisions for the group, and the Youth Improvement Team where I served to speak my
opinion on developing the youth group in a positive way. I have helped on mission teams and
assisted as a Church Vacation Bible School and Summer Camp volunteer. I have also helped
the local community through my work as a trainee at Camp Kanata over the past two summers.
I made an impact on camp by serving meals, cleaning up, and assisting counselors in any way
possible. Through this experience I was able to give back to a place that has shaped me into
who I am today while developing leadership skills to bring back to all aspects of my life including
giving back to the school community.
