CLASS: 2nd 1st year , secondary school.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 22

DESCRIPTION OF THE CLASS: The group consists of 20 boys and 2 girls. The students are between 14-16 years old. The lesson takes
place on Fridays from 7:45 a.m to 9:55 a.m.

TOPIC OF THE LESSON: months and ordinal numbers from 1-31, special days and festivals.

ASSUMED LANGUAGE: Present Simple (positive, negative and interrogative forms), routine activities, places in town and expressions of
frequency.

RESOURCES: board, posters, worksheets.

TIME: 120 minutes.

AIM OF THE LESSON: at the end of the lesson the students will be able to talk about dates.
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:

1. Students may not remember how to make affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences with Present Simple.
2. Sutudents may not bring their books.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

1. Teacher will write the structures on the board.


2. Teacher will bring photocopies in case they forget their books at home or students will be asked to share their copies with their
partners.

INTERACTIVE ACTIVITY TO START EVERY LESSON (10 minutes)

As students are rebellious, noisy and reluctant to obey rules, I would like to start every lesson working with classroom rules.

The teacher together with the students will read the 12 rules aloud. Students will have to look for the short photocopy the teacher gave them the
previous class if they do not remember all the rules.

Since most of the students like rap, trap and pop music, the teacher will invite them to read the rules while listening to a trap song. Students will
be invited to make the rules rhyme so that they will learn them in the form of a song.

1. LEAD – IN 10’ Revision of vocabulary. T–C Picture


 To check vocabulary the teacher will put a poster of a calendar
where students will be able to see all the months of the year on the Board
board. Then the teacher will ask them a few questions about festivals
and celebrations in the world:
Can you mention festivals from Argentina? What do we celebrate?
(students will mention some common and famous festivals and the
teacher will help them with pictures (Christmas, new year,
valentine’s day, Easter, spring day, student’s day, Halloween, etc.).
The teacher will ask for a few volunteer students to come to the front
and stick the celebrations in the correct months.
 Then, the teacher will ask students to write the date of these
celebrations if they remember. So in this way, she will introduce the
ordinal numbers (1st January, 14th February, 21st September, etc.).
 While volunteer students come to the front and stick the picture, the
teacher will ask them a question: What do you usually do on
Christmas Day/Valentine’s Day/etc.?
 The teacher will help them showing them pictures with activities to
do on special days (give presents, have a party, decorate the house,
take photos, have a picnic, listen to a band) and using mime and
gestures.
 The rest of the students can help their partners to answer the
question too.
2. ELICITATION 15’ Students will work with a reading comprehension task:
 The teacher will ask students to look at the picture to set up the context.
Then, the teacher will point at the picture and students will descibe what
they see if they go to this festival.
o What can you see in the pictures?
o What does “The Three Moons” mean?
o Do you go to this festival?
o Do you like it?

 The teacher will give students the reading comprehension.


 The teacher will read it first, then she will ask for two or three volunteer
students to read.
After reading, the teacher will give them one activity in which they will have
to read the text again and match from 1-6 with a-f.

3. EXPLANATION 20’  Students will be asked to highlight sentences with different colours T–C Worksheet
which contain “FIRST”, “SECOND” and “THIRD.” s
 The teacher will pick some students to write some of the sentences
they have highlighted in the board. Board

 The teacher, with the help of the students, will explain on the board how
to write and pronounce ordinal numbers and students will learn how to talk
about dates. Next to each ordinal number, the teacher will write the meaning
in Spanish if necessary, and will ask students to copy the new topic.

The teacher will also introduce the typical question: When is your birthday?
And the answer: It is on the twenty-eighth of October. The teacher will
explain that we say: “the twenty-eighth of October” but we write 28th
October.

The teacher will ask the students to repeat what they have written on the
board chorally and then individually.

4. ACCURATE 10’ 6. Students will be given activity n° 1 in which they will have to complete T–C Worksheet
the sentences with the correct ordinal numbers looking at the picture.

10’ 6.1. Listening: students will be asked to do a listening from the book and Board
choose the correct dates, then ask questions and answer them. The
teacher will give them one example.

6.2. Pronunciation game: students will be divided into two groups. The
15’ teacher is going to explain that she is going to write a few ordinal numbers
on the board for each group. Then students from both groups will be asked
to pronounce these ordinal numbers correctly. Every time students do it
correctly, the group gets a point. The group with more correct
pronunciations will be the winner. The prize may be a packet of sweets.

The teacher will act as assessor or resource in order to help students to


create the sentences in the correct form.

 The written exercises will be solved and corrected during the class. If
there isn’t enough time to do them, the exercises will be solved as homework
and they will be corrected the next class by the teacher.
5. IMMEDIATE 10’ Disguising voices: Students will be asked to choose one celebration and S –S
write three TRUE and three FALSE sentences about what they usually do
CREATIVITY or do not do on this special day. The teacher will show them the pictures
from the lead in to help them write and she will act as a resource and monitor
teacher.

Once students have finished writing, the teacher will ask them to record their
sentences into an audio with their mobile phones. She will also ask them to
disguise their voices so that no one in the class will recognize their
recordings. She will suggest that they imitate the voice of a pop singer they
know well, or they could imitate a young child or an alien.

The following lesson, the teacher will collect students’ recordings and
students will try to identify who the speaker is.

READING COMPREHENSION:

“The three moons” is a famous festival in Cañada de Gomez. It lasts for three days.
It is usually on 25th, 26th and 27th February. It is near the train station.
It is a special festival because people from different cities come to see the shows and have fun.
The organizers decorate the place with lights and prepare delicious food and drinks.
On the first night, people listen to and dance with a popular cumbia band, for example “Los Palmeras”.
On the second night, people dance folklore music and talented artists from Cañada de Gomez sing.
On the third night, a famous folklore artist sings and people take photos.
At the end of the festival, there are fantastic fireworks. It is a beautiful celebration.
