Reflective essay

“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good

stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is

persistence.” ― Octavia E. Butler. This semester at Valley has shown me a lot of awareness in

English 101 and I learn to become a better writer becuase English 101 opens the door for me to

see why writing is so important. I’m going to tell you about my experiences in English 101 and

how I will take advantage of my everyday life.

My experiences throughout my time in English 101 had shown a lot of important assets

to have in essays. Most of the assignments that I have done is based on what steps I needed to

take before my assignment. For instance, a study plan is very necessary for the preparation of

any essays because there are many ways to learn how to go through the process of making an

essay. Searching is important to have when doing an essay and what I learn is that having reliable

sources helps the essay prove a point but only when is a reliable source. Is hard to find sources

that will support your point of view of the argument and being more thorough on your essay

helps support an argument. Another important factor in an essay is analyzing the thesis of your

own essay because every writer needs to know what they want to write in an essay and explain to

the readers about the points in the body paragraphs. I learn how to grow as a writer, in fact, I

believe I improve better by the reason of how much I learn in English 101 I used many resources

that the class gave me. The basic resources that I used in English 101 are Easybid, chomp

chomp, and many more. Also, I learn how to do outlines for myself when doing body paragraph I

tried to figure out what the important information I need for my essay. It’s a challenge for me

becuase I need to figure out what information proves my point when it comes to an argument. I

tend to use the outline now that it helps me find what I need to establish for my essay.

I did have issues in the course of English 101 but having issues is not a bad thing becuase

this time now I learn what are my strength and weakness throughout the whole semester. One of

the things I notice is that I didn’t have much knowledge of making a proper format of the

Modern Language Association style becuase the education I received back in high school didn’t

teach how to make MLA formats until now. I’m very thankful for this class that thought me how

important it is to make an essay with MLA format. This became my strength to learn fast and get

the chance to increase my knowledge of writing. Although I admit I still have some weakness

over my English 101 class like time management and I even wrote an essay about time

management due to the reason that I could relate to problems of managing my own schedule. I

had a hard time making a schedule for my classes because I still new to the junior college system

and sometimes plans change. My strength is being more adaptable to any situation because I am

a committed student that tries to earn many units as I can to survive. The reason why I tend to be

committed student is for the motivation to continue my studies and succeed in my knowledge of

English 101. I am a fast learner when I pay attention to English 101 and it’s one of my many

strength because I understand the purpose once I been shown so in favor, I learn fast when I been

shown how to look for the answers. However, I failed to make editing a lot which is why I have

people to help me revise the essay as well as they check what I need for the essay and what I

have to takeout of the essay. Having a support group helps me grow as a better writer becuase as

a writer I need to know what the audience expects from me when doing an essay. Considering

that the audience is going to be the readers so I should take great measure to make sure that my

essay makes sense for all.

I hope to grow better as writer overtime from English 101 and even further after I

graduate from the university to make a career becuase my life goal does revolve around being an

exceptional storyteller. Improving in writing is also improving more of your own benefits in life

especially when having the knowledge of how to make emails, letter, novel, studying, and etc. In

other words, I want to become a better writer so I could get in the head of making my own world

of storytelling like Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and

many more that admired from kid to adult. I as a future filmmaker expect myself to keep learning

many ways of writing just like English 101 in which the class help me grow more and go further

as a writer. I understand that writing is a long journey itself when growing overtime becuase

every writer needs to earn the spotlight of being at greater writer but my goal is to not only to

grow and become better but to educate myself with writing around the world.

This will apply to my future when I go forward to my life in the interest of trying to make

myself be more involved with writing due to the fact I want to become a filmmaker and as a

filmmaker job they can have more than one job. Filmmakers can be referred to as artist stylistic

form but it more than just art it is a making-of a story. Besides, I have a passion for writing a lot

of things where I would like to talk about with readers. For example, I thought of growing my

ability to writing with journalism and this type of writing is basically telling a report of what’s

going on in the real world in which I do aim to bring in arguments about real life. Another goal

that I aiming for is getting the chance to become a screenwriter in cinema since it is a style that

tells way how actors or actress dialogue on the big screen. Based on everything I learned from

English 101 I could use my knowledge into jobs and university profiles as well as in my

perspective writing is very necessary for my career.

I think all writing is a disease. You can’t stop it.” — William Carlos Williams. Writing

does matter not only for me but for all of us. As William explains it writing is not going to stop

and is reasonable to think about becuase writing is in everyone including that writing is used for

daily tasks. In the sense of writing I going to grow better as a writer and let my dream go further

to tell an everyday story for the whole world to hear.
