Applications
This document is in addition to the installation and operating instructions provided
for each system. It provides instructions that address additional considerations
necessary when this product is applied in locations covered by the requirements of
®
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, National Electrical Code (NEC),
Articles 500 through 504 - Hazardous (Classified) Locations, Class I, Division 2.

The installation and wiring of this product must be in accordance with NEC and all
local codes.

Do not connect or disconnect modules, connectors, cables, or

terminal board wiring while circuits are alive unless the area
is known to be non-hazardous.

Explosion Hazard – Substitution of components may impair

suitability for Class I, Division 2 applications.

Do not assume any cable or any circuitry to be without power

if one end of that cable could be connected to a power source.
To prevent accidental electrical shock, do not touch any
circuitry or bare wire without first ensuring that it does not
carry electricity. When testing for the presence of electricity
and when measuring any electrical circuit, use only the
equipment approved for contact with those voltage levels.

Instructions
The external I/O connections to these cards meet the requirements of EN 50021:1999
Electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres – Type of protection nL,
and UL 1604 (IEC 60079-15) nonincendive for connection to devices suitable for
location in Class I, Division 2, or Zone 2 locations. Nonincendive field wiring must
be installed in accordance with the applicable sections of the NEC, including Article
501.4(B)(3), IEC60079-14, and all local codes. Selected nonincendive field wiring
apparatus must be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s control drawings and
must not be connected to an external power source.

IS200SSCAH1A or IS200SSCAH2A

Nonincendive Circuit Parameters:

SSCA terminals 1 through 48

Uo, Voc: 16 V dc; Co, Ca: 2.2 µF

Io, Isc ≤ 19 mA; Lo, La = 80 mH

Selected nonincendive field wiring apparatus must be simple apparatus or have

nonincendive circuit parameters such that Ui, Vmax ≥ Uo, Voc; Ii, Imax ≥ Io, Isc; Ci + Ccable ≤
Co, Ca; Li + Lcable ≤ Lo, La; Pi ≥ Po.

The remote terminal boards must be installed in an acceptable enclosure for the
location. All cables must be installed using suitable Division 2 or Zone 2 wiring
methods in accordance with Article 501.4(B)(1) of the NEC or EN 60079-14 and all
local codes including the following:

• These devices shall be properly grounded to protective earthing in the final

application.
• Supplied cables may not be cut and subsequently spliced or reterminated during
installation or maintenance.
• The molded connectors must not be used to pull the cables during installation,
and when installed there must be sufficient slack in the cable to remove strain
from the connectors.
• For ambient temperatures below -10°C (+14 °F) and above +60°C (+140 °F) use
field wiring suitable for both minimum and maximum ambient temperatures.
