Community health

Community health :-
Community health means the health of the public. It is responsiblity of the
community health is mainly of the government and local institutions. But every
individual should contribute through their part towards this. The government has
to provide resources such as public parks and gardens for pure air, cleanliness of
streets and market place, disposable of refuse and control of diseases. The people
should co-ordinate fully with the authorities and obey the rules of health. They
must avoid spitting, urinating on the roads, throwing of hulsehold wastes etc. The
villages must be educated in personal hygiene, construction of houses with proper
ventilatin, tieying cattle for away from where they are staying, keeping drinking
water of wells, tanks pure. Building of proper toilets and teaching them primary
habits.

*Dangers from gas :-


Precautions while using a gas :-
Protect your hands while working with gas with the help of tonges.
Shut off the gas stove and regulator on finishing, cooking or leaving the house
There should not be any fire near the gas cylinder or gas pipe.
Do not check the leaking pipe/gas with lighter.
Gas pipe should be changed once in 6 months.
Authorized person should be given the gas stove for repair.

Dangers from electricity:-

The following points should be noted while using electricity or electronic gadgets:-
Repair faulty appliances and equipments.
Keep electric wires and fuses in proper conditions.
The fuse should not be replaced with lighter or thick wires.
Disconnect electrical gadgets when not in use in safe place and guard them form
children
Faulty electric wires should never be used until repair.
Faulty electrical gadgets must be repaired by a qualified person.
Appliance like heating rods should never be left on while doing some other job
Ventilation wholes of the television should never be covered as this may generate
enough heat as this may start a fire.
Children must be given training in handling electrical appliances.
Children must be given training in handling electrical appliances.
Never work with electricity with wet hands, feet or standing on wet soil.
Use rubber pads, mats, etc while working with electricity.
Broken electrical wires due to storms become dangerous, stay away from them until
current is switched off or repaired.
Do not use any electrical appliance which does not have have a plug at the end of
the cord.

Dangers from Fires :-

Fires are caused mainly by carelessness which may result in damage to life and
property with little care, loss and discomfort can be prevented. Fire can occur due to
burst of leaking gas cylindersor short circuit of electricity and other causes. If he
takes preventive and safety measure at home it will minimize the ristk of fire. It can
be prevented by following:-

Match boxes, burning stoves, open fire and electrical gadgets should be kept out of
reach of children and should never be left unattended.
Match sticks should be kept in a close box away from heat.
A burning candle or flame should never be in a room when one goes to sleep.
Lighted kerosene lamps, candles can be overturned by wind or pests in the house as
this may cause loss of property and life that may occured due to fire.
Windows or door curtains should not be allowed to blow over the flame.
Avoid burning paper or leaves on a windy day.
Childrens shuould play fireworks under the supervision of adults.
Kerosene, petrol, diesel, turpentine and other highly inflammable items must be
stored in the house with air tight containers.
Do not smoke in bed because the little burny ashes can catch a fire.
Keep water and sand ready in case of emergency.

If a person is burnt in fire the following precautions should be taken:-


Submerged the burnt area immediately in cold water so that the skin damages
minimize. Do not use ice cold water as it may intensify the shock
Do not allow the patient to run.
Do not open doors and windows as the air may make the fire more intense.
Hold a thick rug or a blanket and wrap it around the patient.
Do not use thin fabrics, plastics or synthetic material for putting out the flame.
Do not try to remove sticking particles of cloth from the patient’s body.
Corver the burnt area with a clean dry cloth.
Do not applly any oil, ointment or losions since this amy carry infections.
Remove rings, banles, belts, shoes immediately as this will be difficult to remove
because later the limbs may swell.
Take the patient immediately to the nearest hospital.
Dangerous from poisoning :-
Many victims of poisoning accidents are children and sometimes adults.
The following points should be take for the care of poisioning :-
Do not use drugs after its expiery date.
All the bottles and containers should be labelled, the bottles containing poison
should be labelled red.
Medicines should be placed from the opposite side of the labelled to prevent it
from being disfigured.
Dispose of all unuse drugs.
All poisonous items must be kept under lock and key and incharge of an adult.
Medicine should be kept separate from poisonous articles.
All medicines, disinfectants and household cleaners should be kept out of reach of
children.
Children should not be allowed to eat the head of the match sticks or coloured
paper as they contain chemicals which are injurious to health.
Before taking medicines read the labell carefully.
Keep the medicines in a cool place.
Instruct children about the dangers of poison.

If a child or adult has consumed poison the followings steps should be noted. :-
Shift the patient immediately to the hospital with the name of the poison which you
suspect and check there is any vomiting.
If the patient is unconsious do not induce vomiting.
If the patient is conscious induce vomitting by tickling the throat.
Make the patient lie on his backs with their hands flat, bed without any pillow and
turn the head into one side.
Tender coconut water is preferable as it contains nutrients and increases the
voulume and frequency of urine.
The poision passes out from the body through urine.
Dilute the poision by giving large quantity of cold water.

Dangers from the accidents :-


Injuries, they may be major or minor injuries, broken bones or burnt injuries.
Physical deformities or disability.
They may be temprary or permanent.
Disfigurement of an organ
Death.

The following rules must be adopted to avoid accidents :-


Things should be kept in proper place after use.
Stair case must be well lit especially during nights.
Aritcles such as toys, boxes, etc should not be kept on the staircase.
Windows should have grills to prevent children from falling out.
Bathrooms should be kept dry and bath mat should be on the floor to avoid
skidding or falling.
Children should not be allowed to fly kites on the terrace.
While going to bed a burning candle or flame should not be in the room.
All sharp insturments such as openers, knives, blades, razors etc. Should be stored
in a draw.
Floors should be dry and free from grease to avoid slipping.
All medicine , disinfectants, household cleaners should be kept out of reach of
children.
