Case Summary:
The case is all about people’s behavior at workplace and have discussed about is it okay to
show emotions at workplace or not? Some organizations shows emotions as a negative way to get
work done. Employees hesitant to show their true reactions to these emotional outbursts for fear
of being branded as “weak” or “ineffectual.” In this type of organizations, anger appears to be
more acceptable than sadness, and anger can have serious unsuitably adapted consequences. On
the other hand, some organizations believe that employees who work with emotions are more
creative, satisfying, and productive. Such as, customer service. Management consultant Erika
Anderson also stated that “Crying at work is transformative and can open the door to change.”
And there is a question that “can all organizations adapt emotional display to get more productivity
without behaving like emotional outbursts?”

Question 3: Have you ever worked where emotions were used as part of a management style?
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of this approach in your experience.

Answer:
No, my organization does not completely values emotions as a part of management style.
Still, there are some practices that can be relate to emotions. So if I consider my organization, then
I can sense the following advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:
When my manager is in a good mood he can help me out in my work. I can discuss any
problems freely with him and get his suggestions easily. When everyone is in a good mood, overall
work will go smoothly and organization can get effective output from the employees. In this type
of organization, everyone will be happy, will respect each other and everyone will be comfortable
in discussing their problems freely with each other.

Disadvantages:
When the boss is in a bad mood the employees would have to handle all the consequences
as emotions are as a part of the management style. The work pressure would seem to be higher
than it is with the boss scolding the employees. Because the manage will be more aware of the
capabilities of the employees. It can hamper the work progress of the employees as well. As a
result the employees can quit the job as well.
