1.0 INTRODUCTION
This Report details the calculation of loads on Elastomeric Bearings for VUP having 17.3m span
overall. The applicable design Chainages are mentioned below. The VUPs having the maximum
span of 16.20m (Effective) . The overall deck width is 14.50m. The superstructure has 13.50m
carriageway with crash barrier of width 500mm on both sides. The superstructure consists of
"RCC Girder with cast in slab" with 1.250m of cantilever deck slab.
The construction of superstructure is done by Cast in-situ. The crash barrier & Wearing coat are
constructed, after RCC I-Girder is cast.

2.0 GENERAL ARRANGEMENT

The longitudinal units of super structures, between the expansion joints are
mentioned below:
i) VUP at Ch: 18+593 : 1 span unit, 1.63m effective span falls on Transition.

For design consideration, Horizontal curve taken as 800 m

3.0 ANALYSIS
3.1 CALCULATION OF VERTICAL LOADS
The Reactions on the bearing supports are calculated on the following basis
A. Self Weight of girder & Deck slab - From Grillage Model
B. Crash Barrier & Wearing coat - From Grillage Model
C. Live Loads - From Grillage Model
Wearing coat and crash barrier are applied on the longitudinal beams. The live load is applied
as a moving load as per load combination provided in Table B.2 of IRC 6:2017 (i.e One lane
70R + Two lanes of Class A or Two lanes of 70R or Four Lanes of class A) with succeeding
vehicles. The reaction are tabulated from the staad results.

3.2 CALCULATION OF HORIZONTAL LOADS

Horizontal Loads due to effects of Bearing friction, Braking / Traction, Centrifugal Forces,
Seismic, Wind are calculated in the same basis as for Abutment Pier designs.
Wind Load Calculation:
Wind force on the exposed face of superstructure is worked based on Cl:209 of IRC:6.
Loaded & Unloaded cases are considered in bearing calculation. Maximum basic wind speed
on loaded case restricted to 36m/s as per Cl:209.3.7 of IRC:6.
Basic wind speed for Loaded Case = 36 m/s
Basic wind speed for Unloaded Case = 39 m/s
The corresponding wind pressures for both the cases are considered as per table:12 of IRC:6
Seismic Load Calculation:
Seismic forces calculated as per IRC:6.

3.3 TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCES As per Cl:215.3 of IRC:6

i) Maximum air shade temperature = 40.0 Deg
ii) Minimum air shade temperature = 12.0 Deg
