Cognitive Development
At the end of this activity (Conditions), children who are 60-72 months of age (Audience)
will count the order of planets and tell the features (Behavior) of at least 5 planets of solar
system (Degree).

Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)]
Presentation: A Prezi presentation which was prepared before by teacher.
Child-Centered: The activity was planned to make children active throughout the lesson.
Listening-Questioning: Teacher asks open and close ended questions during the activity to
make children remember and active. Also, teacher should listen each children answer.
Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require
Learner Participation)]
This activity is a child centered activity. In this activity, the space theme is given with firstly
solar system by using discussion, memorizing with a song and game. Firstly, teacher use a
picture of solar system to make children familiar with the topic. Then, teacher use a solar
system song to explain the system and to teach features of each planet. After the song part,
teacher use a presentation which is prepared before the lesson with Prezi by teacher, with this
presentation teacher aims that reinforcing the solar system and teach the system with a game.
Finally, teacher wants children to draw and paint their favorite planet.
Individual Learning Activities End of the activity, each child draws and
paints their favorite planet and explain their
reasons.
Group Learning Activities At first, children try to learn solar system by
listening the music as a whole. Then, whole
class play a solar system game.
Summary
Solar System : Sun and Planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
Neptune)
Measurement & Evaluation
1. Descriptive Questions
 What was the topic of the song we listened today?
 Which planets did we learned today?

 How many planets did we learn today?
 What was the name of them?
 Which planet can you remember it’s features?

 How did you feel while we were listening the song and dancing?
 Which part of the activity was difficult for you?
 How did you feel while we are playing ‘’Who am I?’’ game?

 When do we see the sun?
 Do you think that we can see the planets?
Measurement & Assessment Activities Teacher gives children a worksheet for each child
for Individual Performance after the activity. This worksheet contains a task
to cut the planet and then sticking them according
the true order of the planets. Therefore, children
can remember and put in order the planets of the
solar system.
Measurement & Assessment Activities The game which name is Who am I? can be
for Group Performance played again for reinforcing the topic in children
mind. With this group game, children can
remember and make more internalize the planets
with a group working.
Homework (optional) At this part for this activity, teacher can give a
parent involvement activity to do with children as
a homework. Teacher firstly want parents to
watching a video or cartoon which is related with
the solar system and planets. Then, teacher wants
parents that to speak with their children about
their favorite planets, what they remember from
the cartoon o video etc. While doing this teacher
wants parents to record their children speech with
video or notetaking. Children will bring these
notes into the classroom and they will talk about
their experiences with their friends and teachers.
Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan
Before the children come to the class, teacher prepare the classroom. S/he sticks a
picture of solar system and pictures of each planets on the wall. After s/he prepared the class,
children enter class and teacher wait them until they explore the differences in the class.
Then, children are expected to estimate topic of the they. Children and teacher sit on the
circle carpet and teacher starts to take children guesses about what they see. After, children
explained their guesses and expectations, teacher show children the solar system picture
which is on the wall. And teacher starts to explain the topic ‘’ Kids, as you like said before,
today we will learn the solar system and planets. Look at the picture, is there a planet here
you know before?’’ After these conversations with children teacher said that ‘’ Now we will
listen a song which is about solar system and planet. Let’s listen and try to learn about planets
as much as possible, by the way you can dance while listen the song, let’s start.’’ Teacher
open the song. Children start to listen the solar system song. At this point the song should be
listened at least three time to make understandable the topic. After listening the song, children
sit on the circle carpet and they are expected to say what they remember from the song.
Teacher ask each child which planet did s/he remember, what was it features etc. After each
child speak about what s/he remember from the song, teacher direct them to the pictures of
the planets on the wall. At this point, teacher starts to introduce each planet one by one to
children. Teacher firstly show the planet in order and say their name. ‘’Kid’s let’s count the
planets one by one. What was the name of first one? Yes, it is Mercury. Then, Venus, Earth,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and finally, Neptune. Let’s count again.’’ Children are
expected to say name and remember the planet. After learning the names of the planets,
teacher explain important features of the planets. ‘’ Children, what was the name of this
planet? Yes, it is Mercury. It is the smallest planet of the solar system.’’ etc. Then, teacher
explain the children that they will a game which name is ‘’Who Am I’’. Teacher explain the
game to children. ‘’Kids, now we will game a play. In this play, we will try to find true planet
according to descriptions. Now, I will read the descriptions, and you will try to remember
name of the planet. Let’s start.’’ After explanation part, teacher open the Prezi presentation
and game start. End of the day, children are expected to draw their favorite planet and
explained their reasons to the class. After children draw their pictures assessment part starts.

Teacher should download the video of the song from the You tube in USB or his/her
computer to use in case of emergency.
Teacher can download the presentation also in PDF version. Teacher can take hardcopy of
this presentation to use the class in case of emergency.
