Got an introduction to website maintenance. Sat with webmaster while he performed a major
website update. Talked about the importance of password management and keeping logs.
Received an introduction to web management basics like FTP, RAM, Drupal, etc. Received
necessary software for working on my final website.
Transferred website creation software onto an external hard drive, allowing me to work on my
project from any computer and to have a central spot for any and all work done on the website
to be stored.
Installed and configured WAMP server on my laptop, which is necessary for running and testing
website builds before releasing them publicly.
Installed VMware, a program that allows me to operate a completely virtual computer on top of
my actual laptop. Also installed web design programs and files onto said virtual machine such
as notepad++, winrar, and WAMP
Configured VM with WAMP and attempted to solve errors that popped up throughout the
process, but were unsuccessful
Put together a step by step process for me to set up my VM and configure it to allow the
construction and exportation of the website. Changed operating system to Windows 7
Enterprise, as Windows 7 wasn’t working (too many errors) and Windows 10 would be too
complicated and Windows Server 2012 was not downloading properly.
Monday, March 25th, 9:00pm - 10:00pm
Configured my new Windows 7 VM and installed Firefox, Notepad++, WINrar, Microsoft Office
2007, and WAMP.
Cloned my VM and began the installation process for Drupal version 7.65
Installed Drupal 7.65 and got the bones of the website created. Learned how to install modules
on Drupal. Set up a date with our church’s pastor to meet and discuss website preferences
regarding content and layout.
Added content to the “about us” page and made pages for all tabs on the main menu
Used information from my meetings with Pastor Barb to add content to the Education, Youth,
and Give tabs, as well as update staff bios and pictures
Worked with my mentor to set up CiviCRM, which allows me to set up databases and send out
automated emails and track demographics
Went through the website and cleaned it up, made things look nice. Went over more CiviCRM
with my mentor and figured out how to set up “from” emails and how to edit an email format.
Sunday, May 12th, 9:15am - 9:45am
Presented the site to my church in order for them to see it and make the decision of whether or
not they want to use it.
