Hydra - Long endurance multi domain UXV drone platform

The Hydra electric UXV weapon system is a multi domain drone combining traditional
fixed wing, quadcopter VTOL, high efficiency long endurance ground effect flight
with surface and sub surface manoeuvre all in one platform. The Wing in Ground
effect mode uses the lift generated from near surface flight to significantly
reduce the power requirement to sustain flight (approximately 5% total power
consumption versus quad copter flight) with increased payload capacity (250%).

The Hydra UXV can be employed as a fast moving ground vehicle that does not make
physical contact with the ground avoiding IEDs, mines and natural obstacles such as
rivers and densely vegetated areas or non traversable terrain such as wetlands,
desert or arctic environments while maintaining comparable payload capacity to a
land vehicle all without leaving any physical trace of its movements.

Hydra is a novel weapon system given its ability to be armed with RPG-40 or other
traditional light weight weapon systems for air, ground or sub surface engagement.

The solution is designed and developed in Australia. DefendTex is an Australian

company focusing on developing novel defence solutions. The multidisciplinary team
of engineers on site ranging from mechanical, electrical, aerospace, communications
and computer science, mechatronics and materials is further enhanced by strong
partnerships with 14 Australian universities, combining 86 researchers in various
projects.

The goal for DefendTex is to develop the Australian Defence Industry ensuring
Intellectual Property and manufacturing occurs in-country creating improved
economic growth in the defence sector and ownership of innovation using Australias
untapped expertise in this field.

DefendTex has a Bilateral Agreement in place with the Defence Science Technology
Group which includes a staff exchange agreement. The growing number of projects and
engagement with DST is testament to DefendTexs commitment to Australian Defence
Industry.

Hydra is designed, developed, prototyped, tested and manufactured in Australia, and

most importantly owned by an Australian company DefendTex. The system has been
designed and developed in Victoria with onsite local production and assembly
capability.

Hydra will be manufactured and tested at the DefendTex field range and energetics
testing site in regional Victoria. This facility offers employment to the regional
community, again further enhancing our emphasis on Australian Defence Industry.

The Hydra UXV platform allows high speed, long endurance map of the earth flying in
order to provide a tactial approach to a target. The ability to usilise the
platform in a littoral envornment gives embarked forces on an LHD the ability to
detect and strike targets at range. Ground effect flying allows for 20 x the range
of a typical flight vehicle of comparable size and weight allow for long range ISR
and strike capabilities.

Hydra can be employed as a fast moving ground vehicle that does not make physical
contact with the ground avoiding IEDs, mines and natural obstacles such as rivers
and densely vegetated areas or non traversable terrain such as wetlands, desert or
arctic environments while maintaining comparable payload capacity to a land vehicle
all without leaving any physical trace of its movements.
