Changes In Our Infrastructure Due To Climate Change

2. What was your topic about? What was your position (belief) about the topic. Give pertinent
details. Explain #2 in a paragraph or less. If you have changed your topic, explain it here.

My topic is about how climate change affects infrastructure. My position on this topic is that
climate change does affect infrastructure because sea levels have risen, wildfires have grown in
intensity, and the occurrence of landslides has increased. The effects of climate change pose a
threat to infrastructure. For example, the risk infrastructure along the shore depends on the rate of
sea level rising. The government will either need to relocate communities or invest in
infrastructure protection prior to rising sea levels. Relocate communities or invest in
infrastructure protection would cause billions of dollars to do so. Florida has already spent $100
million to protect the Florida Keys. Imagen how much it would cost, protecting infrastructure all
over the world along the shore. Another example of climate change poses a threat to
infrastructure is increasing of wildfire and landslide. In the United States, wildfires have occurred
five times more frequently since the 70s and 80s. Since 2011, each wildfire has cost one billion
dollars in damages. In Europe, the number of fatal landslides is increased about seven times since
1995. Frequent occurrences of wildfires and landslides would cost billions of dollars in damages.
All of the effect that pose a threat to infrastructure happen because of Climate change.

3. Explain the overall goal of your efforts by answering these questions:

a. Describe the community/ies you will focus on.
 I will focus on teenager in the communities because it’s this generation that will make
environment better or worse for the future. I want them to make a positive to the
environment.

b. Where will you go to find these people?

I will ask around to get some teenagers to go volunteer with me and get their thought on
environment issue.

c. Explain HOW the community will benefit from your SLE.

The community will benefit from my SLE by getting them to realize that there a huge
issue in environment.

d. At the end of your hours, how will YOU know you helped this community? How will
you measure this? 2-3 sentences.

At the end of my hours, I will know I have helped the communities by getting the
perspective of the people that come to volunteer with me. I will measure this by seeing
how many volunteers come along with me to volunteer.
