5. At a normal body temperature (37°C) Kw = 4.72 x 10-14. Calculate [H⁺] if [OH¯] = 6.82 x 10-7 M
at this temperature.

6. The table below shows the Ka and pKa values for some acids.

## Acids Ka value pKa

Ethanoic acid, CH3COOH 4.67
Chloric (I) acid, HOCl 2.92 x 10-8
Benzoic acid, C6H5COOH 4.18
Methanoic acid, HCOOH 3.66
Nitrous acid, HNO2 7.08 x 10-4
Sulfurous acid, H2SO3 1.82

## a) Complete the table with the correct Ka and pKa values.

b) Arrange the acids in descending order of their acid strength.

7. A weak acid solution HA with a concentration of 8.2 x 10-3 M, has a pH of 3.34. Calculate the
pKa value of the acid by using an ICE table method.

8. Calculate the pH of a strong acid when 2.42 g of nitric acid is dissolves in water to make 1750
mL of total solution. (Given : molar mass of HNO3= 63.02 g/mol)

total volume of 575 ml if the pH is 13.86. (Given : molar mass of KOH = 56.11 g/mol)

10. Given the Ka value for benzoic acid, C7H7O3 = 6.5 x 10-5 at 25°C. Calculate :
a) The concentration of hydrogen ion, [H⁺] in 0.485 mol dm-3 solution of benzoic acid.

## 11. Determine pH of a weak acid solution of 0.035 M which is 38.4% ionized.

12. At 25°C, the Kb value for 0.65 mol dm-3 of NH3 solution is 1.8 x 10-5. Calculate pH of the

14. Predict whether the following salts produce an acidic, basic, or neutral solution. Justify your
(a) K2SO4 (b) NaCN

(e) Ca(Cl)2

## 15. Explain about buffer solutions.

16. Determine the pH of a buffer solution that contains 0.84 M HF and 0.42 M NaF. Given the Ka of
