Dear Friend,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The
Scripture says, "And they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee:
for Thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee" (Psalm 9:10).
Regardless of what it seems like or feels like, the Lord never forsakes them that
seek Him! If we seek Him, we will find Him, for He is not far from every one of
us. Though we don't understand all things yet, He has our answer because He is
the answer! He is the way and the truth and the life!
Did you ever think there are some things that are just too hard to handle? I
have heard many say He never gives us anything too hard to bear. But in reading
the Scripture, that is not exactly what it says. He was speaking of temptations
and that He would make a way of escape so we do not have to fall and give in to
sin. But sometimes there are things we face that God never gave us. Some things
that come our way aren't because we are tempted. They might come when we do
everything right, and yet somehow a tragedy strikes (like Job in the Bible), or
something beyond our control happens that presses us beyond measure, greater
than our strength to stand and seems we have a sentence of death hanging over
our heavy hearts. What can you do then? We question why and cannot find an
answer in men's philosophy. There's not a minister that can tell us the "Word of
the Lord" for that problem, and it seems like God has forsaken us. The apostle
Paul said he was in that very place while bringing the Gospel to Asia. A situation
arose he never encountered before. It was so heavy it was unbearable. Pressure,
affliction, anguish, persecution: was was all wrapped up in the word "trouble!"
He became despondent, and was utterly at a loss. He wrote, "We were pressed
out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in
ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so
great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that He will yet deliver
us."
These difficulties that come our way causes us to simplify the Gospel and
we become even more sincere. The grace of God becomes much richer to our
hearts. It is at these times the Lord Himself becomes our salvation. We trust Him
alone, for He is our Good Shepherd, the Keeper of the way. He watches over us
and delivers us from every evil thing. Our confidence is no longer in ourselves,
but in Him who can even raise the dead! How do I know this? Because I was
dead in trespasses and sins, and He saved me! I was dead in the circumstances
that were too big for me to handle, and He rescued me from danger. I was falling
into depression but His Word kept me propped up. He said, "Now unto Him
that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the
presence of His glory with exceeding joy..." You may seem to be losing in this
life, weak in this life, pressed out of measure in this life, but what comes forth
from your inner man is His life! It is working for you, the Bible says, a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
What can be done if you are being pressed like that? The Scripture says,
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never
suffer the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22). Don't give up. Don't quit.
Muster all your strength and cast that burden upon the Lord and trust Him. Keep
your eyes fixed upon the Lord. He will not let you sink and be lost. He will
gather you unto Himself and carry you over to the other side! He has a message
for you, and you alone, in this difficult season. He will bring you through! You
will see His presence manifested in your life, and people will get saved and
helped and glorify God for your stand for Him! And that situation that was so
hard? It will no longer have the power over you it once did. You will be able to
speak of it on your own terms. I believe the Lord will give you that kind of
victory in your life, for Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and
that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
If you are in the Torrington area I invite you to our services. Our schedule
