My names Sawyer Dinzler, I often go by the name Soy. I am a senior at Thousand

Islands High School and I will be attending SUNY Geneseo and plan to become an educator in
the history field. I want to achieve my Masters degree in history at Geneseo and obtain a quality
teaching job teaching grades 7-12. I chose to become an educator so I can teach the next
generation of students.
In the past years of my education, my results could be described as mediocre. This is a
result of me not caring or knowing what i wanted to do with my life. Now that I know, and now
that i've picked a college i've done everything in my power to get my grades up and try to
impress colleges. My first choice college was SUNY Geneseo, admittingly, getting into Geneseo
looked like it was unattainable with my results and grades. I did everything to get my grades up
especially in my senior year to try to get into Geneseo. I applied for early decision, rolling
admission, and after being deferred from early decision, I was put on a waiting list for 2020. For
me, going to Geneseo in 2020 wasn't an achievement really. It's not what i wanted. I began to
involve myself on the Geneseo websites and their app Geneseo 360 to connect with the college
and students more, and as a result of this I was finally accepted to Geneseo for the Fall of 2019.
I finally felt achieved and content with my work that i was doing. I plan to continue my work ethic
i have picked up from this and continue it into college as well. I feel as if there isn't enough good
educators in the country, too many teachers are not interactive enough, all they do is hand out
packets and have the students do tedious work that doesn't show great results. Teaching
should be interactive and enjoyable and still be productive to make students come away
satisfied and remembering the important information. I want to change the stigma that teaching
is just handing out or looking at information. Information is useless when it doesn't stick with the
students, you know someone's a good teacher when that information can stick with all the
students.
A lot of things have shaped me into the person I feel I am today. I feel as if im a well-
rounded individual and have learned well from experience. One thing I credit to shaping my
personality and attitude is eSports, or competitive gaming. It seems silly that a game can affect
your whole self. I know that playing this game competitively and on a high skill level with others
has helped me focus, remain calm in fast paced or tense situations, and to deal with failure in a
better matter and instead of focusing on a loss I should focus on improving myself. The
competitive game I play is a 5 vs 5 with objectives on either side, there's only two minutes in a
round of 30 rounds so things are constantly fast paced and thought out before the round starts. I
got into competitive eSports around 2014, though I don't feel as i was very skillful then, i was
seeing results. I started to join smaller amatuer teams and this helped me with my
communication skill and how to work with many different people of all personalities and
character. My peak of my time in eSports was when I joined a professional team looking for
younger aspiring players. This is when it got serious, I wore their jerseys and received a monthly
pay from them for the time I out in with the team and my individual skill. I really believe that
these experiences has greatly shaped who I am, and i'm proud of that and who i've become.
I am excited to continue my educations and become the best person and educator I can
be. I’m ready for college and the new people I will meet, and the new life I will start living. My
future is well planned and structured and I believe in myself to do what I need to do to live it.
