BAIS LGU SUPPORT CLIENTS’ REHABILITATION

BAIS CITY - The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bais City strengthened its support to
the rehabilitation of clients who availed of the plea bargaining framework under Republic Act
9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002. This is in line with the government’s campaign
against the illegal drugs to ensure that the community is a safe place for each member.

In September 2018, the Bais City Parole and Probation

Office organized the Bais City Advocates Against Illegal
Drugs (BCAAID) composed of clients who availed of
the plea bargaining in drugs. On the following month,
after the officers of the association took oath before
RTC Judge Honorable Candelario Gonzalez, a
courtesy call was made to the City Mayor, Honorable

official, ten (10) clients were given the chance to work
as Job Order employees in support to their rehabilitation from December 2018 to present.
Through this collaboration between the LGU, represented by Mr. Luigi Goñi and Mr. Fernando
B. Eregel, the clients’ economic and financial capability has greatly improved.

Since September last year, a weekly

intervention has been initiated by BCPPO for drug-
based clients. The intervention approach is holistic,
giving importance to the different aspect of their
lives especially the spiritual and psychosocial
aspects. As such, the Volunteer Probation
Assistants (VPAs) facilitates Bible studies and Bible
sharing with the clients. Also, the 12 Steps to Photo: Clients referred for the job placement to
Recovery of the Narcotics Anonymous, facilitated by Bais City LGU.
Mr. Miguetso Lamata, has been helpful to their rehabilitation. The venue for these sessions is
provided by the different stakeholders in the community especially the church and the LGU of
Bais City.

Based on the continuing observations, generally, 98% of the clients are drug-free and
doing better with their individual lives. Most of them are either employed or has ventured to
small livelihood as sources of income.
