2pm Meditation (5 minutes)

 Begin the PATHS lesson with a quiet meditation. If the weather is
sunny and clear, conduct this meditation outside and set a three-
minute timer for students to sit on the grass and listen to all the
sounds they can hear. If it is raining, complete a Smiling Minds
meditation.

2:10pm Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Prior knowledge
 Bring students back inside on the mat to discuss the topic of
friendship and its relation to our feeling’s lessons.
 Revisit prior knowledge by asking one student to come up and read
each of the poster ideas from last week.
E.g. What makes a good friend
 Have students begin bobbed down and stand up if they agree with
the ideas presented.

Story Time (10 minutes)

 Tell students that today we are going to continue to read the story
about Carla and Ann’s friendship. Before we begin, lets recap the
story so far. PowerPoint with Carla
and Ann story/pictures
Carla and Ann were best friends and in the same class at school. Mrs
Johnson told them they could audition for a part in the class play.
Carla and Ann were excited and practiced hard. There was a problem
however, that neither girl had stopped to think about.

 Using the PowerPoint created, read students (with pictures) the story
of Carla and Ann about friendship.

 If students are noticeably zoning out throughout the story, have some
volunteers come up the front to act out the story as it is told.

Role Play (25 minutes)

 In groups, students will role play what they think will happen next in
the story. I will assign some groups with the task of showing how it
could turn out for the worst and other groups will portray the best
possible outcome
 After this, we will watch each other’s performances and share our
ideas about the different role plays

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

Wrap up (10 minutes)

 Ask students to write on a post-it note the biggest friendship issue
they have and to put it in my question box. This might be along the
lines of:
- Feeling left out
- Getting told off by friends
- Friends putting you down
Post it notes
Tell them that all sticky notes are private, they do not have to write
their name on it.

 Give students five minutes at the end of the lesson to write in their Question Box
Feelings Journals to reinforce the importance of getting feelings off
your chest. Remind students of what Sidney in year 6 said at the last
assembly- “The feeling of ‘pent up’ can lead to many other problems”
If anyone wants to share, they can!

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?) Feelings journal

 Students will pack and stack ready for the home time bell

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)

 Collect post-its and formulate the biggest issues students deal with
friends then allow that to influence the content of the next follow-up
lesson
