HISTORY
If one base his idea of the history of what
brought about the existence or birth of this barrio,
he may conclude that the saint itself, St. John
cause the establishment of this place as a
separate barrio, During the early days, this barrio
together with Barrio Calero is originally part of
Barrio Balayong. According to the early
inhabitants of the place more particularly Mrs.
Teofista Pagtalunan, the image of the saint was
originally enshrined at the chapel of Calero. But it
seems that a miracle happened when the image
was lost. The people were so surprised and
depressed of the incident and conducted a wide
search for the missing image of St. John. After a
long and rigorous search they finally found it at a
top of a short tree in a place called St. John. They
Brought back the image to Calero, but shortly
thereafter it got lost again and again, and as
always found on the same site before.

The residents there concluded and have common belief that maybe the saint really
wants to stay there permanently in San Juan. So they followed the dictate of their conscience
and built a small chapel for their Saint and there they enshrined it permanently. The place
being a stones throw away from the town proper of Malolos, Improve very much economically
and the once small chapel was converted to a concrete and big structure. Hence the place
was permanently separated from Balayong and named after their Patron St. John the Baptist
whose feast day they celebrate every June 24. They celebrate it the traditional way depicting
the baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan, by showering water to every passersby in the barrio.
As per census in 1980, the total population of San Juan is 2,579, there numerous
professionals including three (3) priests giving added luster to the people of the barrio.
Spiritual life is centered in their chapel where regular masses and novenas are held every
Sunday.

DESIGN
STRATEGIES
AND
PROPOSALS

10 | P a g e
The following reports are the proponents proposals, strategies and solutions according to
the problems surveyed for the past few weeks.

PROPOSED
FACILITIES

11 | P a g e
BARANGAY HALL
One of the main problems in this barangay is the barangay hall. It was small
and only employees are fitted inside. Only 3-4 person can fit in the existing barangay hall.
There is also a daycare found at the second floor, which have dangerous sharp stairs. So
then, we proposed a sustainable and accessible barangay hall. Which can now be located
at the main
road of san juan. (f. Estrella st.)

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL & HEALTH CENTER

Elementary school of San Juan Malolos, Bulacan is too crowded. It can easily
be distracted by the noises coming from minor roads. Its location is just perfect, a
little too away from the major road. However, because of its compactness, it is too
hot and noisy for the children. So then, we proposed/ redeveloped a sustainable
and accessible elementary school with their own playground to play around in a
safe and undistracted place to be.

Mary immaculate hospital can be found at the end of san juan vicinity but
some are far from it. we then so come up with a proposal of constructing a health
center just as near to the elementary school, for it will also serve as clinic to children.
its just as accessible as the school.

NARROWED LOT
HOUSE
PROPOSALS

A street
without sidewalks can
be very dangerous, we
then proposed these
modern houses to
residents with narrowed
lots. in this way, we can
have more spaces for
sidewalks (1500mm will
do).

17 | P a g e
PARK PLAN

Another missing piece are the parks. Yes, San Juan does have many unused areas. Why not
turn them into a park? It lets the community have a social life.

18 | P a g e
STREET
PROPOSALS
Traffic flow of san
juan is crazy. A one-
way road becomes
two-way which
results to congestions
which produces heat
as well, one solution
the proponents
designed is to have a
one-way policy in the
area.

The San Juan arc is not that

visible anymore. A new and
improved sustainable arc is
designed to meet standards.

Signage are not found

in the area. so then, we
proposed to have 19 | P a g e
signage with wide and
clear texts.
STREET PLAN

One of the major problems in San Juan, Malolos, Bulacan are the roads. It is not
properly designed to accommodate residents who lives and passes by these minor roads.
With the proper design of roads, it can meet the residents’ satisfaction and lessens
vehicular congestion.
