Las estructuras con el verbo "to be" sirven para poder comunicar varias aspectos muy
útiles como pueden ser "hablar sobre una persona" (su nombre, nacionalidad, de dónde
es, su profesión, como se siente, etc.) y "describir las características de alguien o algo"
(qué es algo, su color, a quien pertenece, etc.).
El verbo 'To be' tiene una importancia especial en inglés. Se corresponde a los verbos
españoles "ser" y "estar". Dependiendo del sentido de la frase deduciremos de cual de los
dos se trata.
- Para expresar las sensaciones también se emplea el verbo 'to be' y equivale al 'tener'
español.
- También para hablar sobre el tiempo atmosférico. En este caso se traduce por 'hacer'
TO BE + INFINITIVO
Cuando al verbo 'to be' le sigue un infinitivo adquiere una importancia especial:
She is to stay here till we return / Ella debe quedarse aquí hasta que volvamos
(en lugar de 'She must stay....')
TO BE + GOING TO
Expresa una forma de futuro. Equivale a las expresiones españolas "ir a..., estar punto de...
tener la intención de..., etc."
El verbo "to be" en inglés es equivalente a los verbos "ser" y "estar" en castellano. Su
declinación en el presente del indicativo (simple present) es la siguiente:
El verbo "to be" se puede utilizar como un verbo ordinario y en este caso sirve para dar
información sobre el sujeto:
I am old. Yo soy mayor
The car is red. El coche es rojo
It is cold. Hace frio (el día está frio)
También se utiliza como verbo auxiliar para formar las formas continuas:
I am running. Yo estoy corriendo
I was running. Yo estaba corriendo
Otro uso del verbo "to be" es seguido de infinitivo y se utiliza para dar órdenes de una
manera un tanto impersonal, especialmente con la 3ª persona, o también para comunicar un
plan:
He is to solve that problem. El debe resolver ese problema
They are to help you. Ellos deben ayudarte
I am to travel next week. Voy a viajar la próxima semana

Vamos con otros conceptos básicos, como son los días de la semana, que en
inglés son los siguientes:

Otra noción a tener en cuenta para empezar a saber un poquito de inglés son
los colores, que en inglés son los siguientes:

1.10. La familia (The family)
En este paseo inicial por el vocabulario básico del inglés, no podía faltar el léxico
referente a la familia. Aquí lo tienes:
Father: Padre
Daddy o Dad: Papá, familiarmente.
Mother: madre
Mummy o Mum: Mamá, familiarmente.
Sister: Hermana.
Brother: Hermano.
Tío: Uncle.
Tía: Aunt.
Grandfather: Abuelo.
Grandpa, Granny: Abuelo, familiarmente.

2.1) El verbo (to) be
El verbo (to) be se conjuga de esta forma:
Además del verbo (to) be, existen otros verbos también esenciales a la hora de
aprender bien el inglés: el verbo (to) have (=tener) y el verbo (to) do (=hacer), que,
como veremos más tarde, también se utiliza como verbo auxiliar para las formas
negativa e interrogativa de algunos tiempos verbales.
2.5) Saludos-Greetings
A parte de los tiempos verbales y del vocabulario básico, es también muy importante
que sepas como saludar en inglés o qué decir en situaciones cotidianas. Aquí tienes los
saludos que más se utilizan:
Hello/Hi- Hola
Good-bye- Adiós.
See you later/See you- Hasta luego, nos vemos, nos vemos luego.
Good morning- Buenos días.
Good afternoon- Buenas tardes (desde las doce hasta las siete).
Good evening- Buenas tardes-noches (desde las siete hasta las diez).
Good night- Buenas noches. (desde las diez hasta las doce).
How are you?- ¿Cómo estás?.
I am fine- Estoy bien.
What is your name?- ¿Cómo te llamas?

Los pronombres simplemente son personas, las personas que realizan una
acción, van en el sujeto de una oración y son:
