No Poverty
The U.N goal “No Poverty” is the most important because it helps achieve most of the other goals by
providing jobs through businesses. (Goal) The jobs in turn provide income and assuming that the minimum
wage is high, the income becomes taxes(assuming that it’s a capitalist society), building a foundation upon
which the government can use to fund projects, infrastructure, etc. Such as schools, more agricultural lands,
business, electricity, water, etc. The goal also helps achieve the climate goals, as when people’s income rises,
they care more about the environment because they have the time and money to focus on something that is not
involved with their own survival, thus pursuing more greener ways to live their lives. (Wu) In the way of
providing jobs, which in turn creates more resources meaning more markets and competition, it deals with
discrimination in the free market, since if one business doesn’t serve a group of people than the business next
door will just serve that group, therefore making more money, same things applies with jobs.(Rand) For
example if Food Lion doesn’t allow Hutu’s to shop there, and Harris Teeter does, then Harris Teeter will make
more money than Food Lion and in extreme cases Food Lion could go out of business. The jobs also have to
follow the International Labour Organisation and the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights,
which sums up to business cannot discriminate, business have to commit to a certain minimum wage, and no
child labor. All leading to the point of why this is important, and that is because 783 million people are living
of 1.90 us dollars a day, meaning they have lack of food, water, quality education, and other basic

services.(Goal) But if their income rises then they will have more opportunity to ensure a better future for their
kids.
