Restrictions on the government's I believe that this amendment only carries benefits rather than
5 prosecution of persons accused of crimes detriments. I respect the fact that this amendment places heavy
emphasis on the due process of our justice system. It is imperative
that we have justice for crimes, even capital crimes, within the
perimeters of our court system and jury system.
Guarantees a citizen the right to an This amendment is very important and necessary in the
6 attorney, a speedy trial, and a fair jury functioning of our society today. Although if committing a crime is
among some of the rights granted horrendous and inexcusable, the accused are still people at the end
of the day who should still have some semblance of rights. I am a
full proponent of the policy innocent until proven guilty, and this
amendment gives the accused civilian an opportunity to possibly
clear their name if they are in fact innocent.
Guarantees a jury trial for civil cases in To be perfectly honest, I actually do not see the significance of this
7 the federal courts amendment. I believe that whether it be in a federal court or a
common court, as long as a trial is being taken place and the
accused has a jury, I really do not have a preference of where the
trial takes place.
States that that punishments must be fair, I completely believe in this amendment and I believe in it for one
8 cannot be cruel, and that fines that are specific reason. In terms of a sentence after the accused is found
extraordinarily large cannot be set guilty, I believe, under no circumstances, the death penalty should
be a part of the sentencing. I think it is completely and utterly
inhumane and hypocritical to kill a killer. Although murderers are
disgusting human beings, I believe they are still human life, and
no human life should be taken away on purpose if it could be
avoided.
Other rights that may exist aside from the I think this amendment is pretty important mostly because it places
9 ones explicitly mentioned, and even a heavy importance on the adherence to these laws for our society,
though they are not listed, it does not and makes sure it is one hundred percent clear that these laws are
mean they can be violated never fully broken or violated to the best of their abilities.
Fill out the following rights and explain how it is important to you!
Balance of power between the federal Although I do agree with this amendment to a certain extent, I
10 government and the states believe that states do take advantage of this amendment. I do agree
with a balance of power, but if the Supreme Court makes a
decision in regards to an issue, I am of the opinion that their ruling
on the issue is then federal law and should be adhered to by the
states. States are abusing their power and taking decisions made
by the court already and using it as a way to change their own
laws, just like Alabama did.
Outlines the details of our political This amendment is definitely one of the more important ones. It
14 system such as congress, president, and defines and provide the backbone of our society which is our
voting rights political system. It states the voting age as well as defines the
function of congress and house of representatives. Without this,
the United States would have no idea how to run government in
the slightest.
Giving women the right to vote Since the begin of time women have always been portrayed as
19 being inferior to men. And one of the reasons why this amendment
was so pivotal in breaking that stereotype was its celebration of
the fact that women are people to and have a right fir their voices
to be heard. As a soon to be young women and voter myself,
without this amendment I would n to be able to have any sort of
say in the United States political system.
