Meditation Steps

1. Get into a comfortable position. You do not need to be sitting up with your hands
on your knees. You position should be what is comfortable for you. This could
mean lying down, sitting up, being against something, or anything really. Chose
what ever works for you best.
2. Begin to breathe deeply. You do not have to count your breaths, but can if you
like. Just make sure that they are all long deep breathes generally about the same
length.
3. Begin to clear your mind, unless your meditation is based on thinking of one
specific thing. If it is the second thing clear your mind of all non-relating things.
Clearing your mind can take anywhere from seconds to even an hour at times. If
you can not clear your mind, do not get frustrated. Just stop and try again another
day. One of the hardest things is to stop thinking about clearing your mind. You
want to get it to where you are not speaking to yourself in your head. However,
when thoughts go through your mind in this stage simply look at them from a
objective point of view, do not dwell on them, and let them pass.
4. Relax your body. Do not do this all at once, but slowly. I recommend doing it in
three breathes, each time slowly relaxing your whole body until completely
relaxed. I do not recommend starting at any one spot and going from there to your
whole body as it causes too much thinking and you want to keep your mind
cleared.
5. This is where you focus on the point of your meditation. If it is to be a meditation
involving visualization this is where you would start it. If it is to be a meditation
of just clearing your mind stay in the state you are for the length of time you wish.
If you are meditation on a certain thing this is where you start focusing on it.
6. Once you have completed your meditation it is best to slowly wake up from it. Do
not come out of it too fast or you may feel dizzy or sick. Relax for a bit after
coming to and I suggest maybe eating salt crackers if you feel a little too odd.
