To whom it may concern,

It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Kelsey Fischer. I have been one of her mentor
counselors during the time she has served at Lincoln High School in Tacoma as a school counseling
intern. In addition to doing her counseling internship in our building, we also hired her as a Community
Liaison because of her amazing work during her first few months of the school year.

Kelsey brings so many valuable strengths to both of her roles and her past professional experience has led
her to be incredibly knowledgeable about relevant topics. She is incredibly professional, a wonderful
communicator, and a self-starter. She has been able to build positive and healthy relationships with all of
the students she works with as well as staff and families. I have been incredibly impressed with her work
ethic and she is detail-oriented and always completed any project that she takes on.

One of Kelsey’s major projects during her internship has been working with seniors at risk of not
graduating. These students are all credit deficient and have major challenges to overcome to earn their
diploma. She meets regularly with all of these students and sets goals with them to meet graduation
requirements. She tracks their class progress and updates credit checks on a weekly basis. She has become
a wonderful supportive person for these students and advocates for them when needed. In addition,
Kelsey leads a committee of teachers and counselors that meet bi-weekly to discuss these students and
what supports they need to be successful.

Another project that Kelsey took on during her internship was creating and facilitating a weekly
counseling group for at-risk freshman girls. Using curriculum that she developed from her time with the
YWCA, she led discussions about healthy relationships with these girls. When the group was officially
over, the girls wanted to continue meeting because she had built such positive relationships with them. As
a culminating event for the counseling group, Kelsey arranged a field trip to University of Puget Sound
(including a tour, class visit, and lunch) by herself for these students. I was lucky enough to be able to
help chaperone the field trip, and it was very obvious how much the students respected her.

These projects are just a part of what Kelsey has done in our building for our students. When I ask
students about her, they say things like: “she is really approachable” and “you know she is ready to help
you and she is very interested in what you have to say.” She has been a pleasure to work with and would
be an asset to any school building. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Sincerely,

Prema Higgins, M.Ed.
