Subject Title : Philippine Politics and Governance
Subject Credit : 4 units (4 hours per week)
Prerequisite : None

Subject Description : This course introduces students to the basic concepts and vital elements of politics and governance. It attempts to explain how the important
features of our country’s political structures/institutions, processes, and relationships developed across time. In the process, the course helps the learners gain a
better appreciation of their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as members of the larger sociopolitical community to strengthen their civic competence.
This course attempts to develop a sense of social engagement through citizenship, equipped with critical thinking and proper understanding of key concepts.

Student Learning Outcomes : At the end of the semester, the students should be able to;
 Understand and recognize the roles, powers and functions of the Philippine Government.
 Describe and explain the process of nation-building and democratization in the Philippines
 Ensure fully equipped students for active social engagement guided with proper knowledge on politics and governance, following teachings of
Saint Benedict and the example of Saint Bede
 Recognize and appreciate the importance of citizenship and actively participate in the political process
 Assess the current political climate in the Philippines.

Performance Task : At the end of the semester, the student should be able to understand relationship between various social actors, institutions and Civic
organization through a simulation of Policy Making, particularly in the Legislative branch. This will make them understand the process of
nation-building and democratization in the Philippines

In case RFG is still a failing grade, student will be asked to attend summer classes.
