When we hear the country America the things that comes through our mind are bountiful, innovative,

diverse and progressive but we didn’t think of the word “sick”. We didn’t see that as they progress they
are becoming sicker and sicker because of their inventions. Americans get sick more often than
Europeans and other industrialized countries. Since the mid-90s, the number of American suffering from
at least three chronic diseases is almost doubled. The lifespan of the Americans are going shorter and
shorter. There are many factors why this is taking place, one of the factor is the GMO’s that is present in
the food of the American people.

What is GMO? GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms, they take genes from one organism and
force it into the DNA of other organism and they can mix and match between organisms that is not
normally made. According to Don Huber, PhD the things that we are seeing today aren’t normal. We
didn’t see them thirty years ago or fifty years ago. People now a days are getting sicker and that is
because of food and the most radical change is the genetic engineering of their food supply. They have
gone from natural formed food to food undergoing a scientific experiment. About 88% of the US corn is
genetically modified and 94% of US soy is also genetically modified and yet most people are not aware
of it. There is a possibility that after a decade every single major crop is going to be genetically modified.
In the crops we eat there is two main categories of genetic modification, the first is the herbicide
tolerant crops and the other one is the pesticide producing crops.

The process of genetic engineering creates unpredicted side effects. Usually they put a virus or a part of
a virus in order to turn that gene on. The process of cloning which is present in the genetic modification
creates massive collateral damage. There can be hundreds and thousands of mutations running through
the DNA and hundreds and thousands of genes can change their level of expression in the naturally
functioning plant and these creates unpredicted side effects.

In 1996, genetically engineered soy and corn were introduced into the American diet. Since then, many
digestive disorders related to gut inflammation have increased. The American academy cited animal
study showing infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, complication with cholesterol and insulin
and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system. There is a soil bacterium called
Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT), if you take that bacteria and use it as a spray the BT toxin produced by the
bacteria will kill insects. BT is designed to break open the stomach and kill them because of this BT corn
is introduced in our diet and this is the reason in the increase of gastrointestinal problems. A study
shows that BT breaks open tiny pores in human cells and might cause the same kind of disruption in our
stomach just like in the insects.

One of the side effects of GMO’s are birth defects. There is an increase of birth defects in the people
working in the farms and exposed to chemical used to spray in the plants. In the laboratory lab animals
fed with soy have had a serious reproductive disorders. In male rats the testicles changed including
damage to the young sperm cells. In female rats there is a changes in the uterus and ovaries, the DNA
function differently in the embryo offspring of mice. With the genetically modified soy most of the
babies of the rats died within three weeks, the babies are also smaller and could not reproduce. The
testicles change from pink to blue.

There is a way to reverse the effects of GMO base on the Italian study, the rats are fed genetically
modified soy for 8 months and show damage to the livers, pancreas and testicles and then they put a
non-GMO diet for the next month most of the problems are reversed. By changing the diet into a non-
GMO products and seeing the nutritional status of the food a lot of sickness literally disappeared. There
are many side effects that is caused by GMO’s that is why we should all be careful on the food that we
take. Make sure that it is organic and safe to eat. We should all be responsible and let us spread
awareness about the bad effects of GMO’s to save lives.
