SA 4047-16611, N Q W f CHECK PROCEDURES MANUAL

A GENERAL

Purpose of Manual

The maintenance checkflight procedures litted herein are for the purpose of
promulgating standard criteria for ground and flight maintenance checks of
the S-76C+ helicopter. This manual consolidates the normal stading proce-
dures with the maintenance checlctlight procedures to provide the pilot with
one comprehensive manual thcrt can be uscd as a sludy and reference guide,
before flight and in the cockpit.

Communication and navigdon equipment checks are not included in his

manual due to the numerous packages available. Refer to the manuFob,renl
manuals for checkout of equipment.

Functional U w e H l i k

NOTE

Due to the variety of options and options interfaces

that have been installed by Siltorsky and other o p
tions instalkn, some of the following procedures
may vary dig& in your aircraft. It is essentialthcrt the
maidenonce pilot using hprocedures be thor-
oughly faniliar with the aircraft being tested. A de-
taikd briefing on all rnointenance performad on the
aircraft should be conducted prior to flight.

Maintenance M g h k are done to M n e if the aihme, flight controls,

engines, accessoh, and items of #)uipage are functioning in accordance
with predeiennined requirements whii su- to the intendad opeding
environment. These fkghk should be condudd near a Ionding M I,when
feasible, and during daylight hours under VFR conditions. Using discrstion,
some maintenancetiights may be made in combination with operutional fights
provided the operalional poriion is not conducted until the flight inspodion
requirements have been satisfiad by a designoted maintenance checkflight.
When a conflict in the limits or procedures occur beiwaen the Wight Manual
and this manual, the values and.procedures in the Flight Manual shall apply.

NOTE

The checks in this manual are not to be used as a

substiMe for the checks in the Normal Procedures
section of the RFM. tf any conflicts are perceived
between the RFM and the Flight Check Procedures
Manual, the RFM takes precedence.

FLIGHT CHECK PROCEDURES

1.0 GROUND CHECKS

1.1 Flight Control Umkr (DAFCS Equipped See Addendum 1)

Prior to initial ground run, a pilot shall move the cydic, collective and
pedals through b i r full ranges with a ground h y d d i c unit (both mrvo
system pressurized), checking for freedom of movement, resttidons and
binds Measure control fwces with trim off and q u d i e t y evaluate
forces with trim on. In addition, pay particular attention to the following
areas:

a. Loncritvdinal C~dic:Chedc for smooth control f o ~ e s throughout the

mnge, parkubrly when the cydic is placed against ihe forward stop.
If the PBA d u o t o r is not centered, axpact to encounter on increase
in force within 0.75 inches from the aft stop caused by the magnetic
brake over-tmval.

b. h l Cydi: When placed against the left lateral cydic stop, the
c y d s~h o d rsmain then;when placed against the right lateral cyclic
stop, it might tend to spring back off the stop.

c. Yaw/Cokdive: Roke cd&e to midposition with collective trim off.

Ceder pedals. Add left pedal, collective should not drop. Add right
pedal, collective should not rise.

d. The control forces should full within this criteria:

NOTE

Check control forces within 21 inch of neutrol. Forces

should be symmetrical about thh position.

the top of the glare shield, the pilot should bat+ see the top of the
nose cowling.

b. At the eye reference point, the pilot should not find any helicopter
instruments obscured by the glare shield.

Immediately restore the servo switch to both systems on if any

abnormality is observed or suspected.

a. Turn off the No. 1 Servo System in a ten-foot hover and move the
controls through as much range as possible with cyclic and collective
trims depressed. Check for any binding or unusual forces.

b. Turn the No. 1 servo system back on. (To extinguish the # l SERVO
SYSTEM caution light, pull the No. 1 SVO JAM circuit breaker of
land momentarily.)

c. Repeat the check with the No. 2 servo system off.

2.7 AFCS Check (DAFCS Equipped See Addendum 1)

a. Ensure that the collective and cyclic trims are on. Engage AFCS 1
and AFCS 2 on the ground. Raise the collective until the aircraft light
is on the wheels and check that both AFCS panel indicators oppose
attitude motions generated by cydic, collective and pedals.

b. Trim the aircraft in a 10-foot hover. Apply one inch forward cydic
against trim, hdd for one second and then release, damping cyclic
stick oscillation. The aircraft should return to the original attitude with
no more than one overshoot. Repeat the check to the left, right and
aft.

Turn RatelCompass

a. Perform a 90" turn to the right in a 10-foot hover. Check that the
HSls, wet compass and turn rates indicate properly.

b. Repeat the check in a left turn.

Engine Control Checks

Using mild and moderate collective and yaw reversals, evaluate load
sharing and rotor governing. N21Nr should remain 107 ?s 2% and Ni
matching within 0.5% Ni at all times. Investigate varying torque splits as
bleed valve closure related.

Power Assurance

Perform power assurance in accordance with the RFM.

Check that each bleed valve light extinguishes before reaching 94%
Ni, that closure of each occurs within 1% of the other, and record.

Maintain parameters as stable as possible. For manual procedures,

time average Ni. Approximate effect of error or unstable parameters
on power assurance result is as follows:

-6.0% power margin1+16"C T5 margin error per +1% Ni error

-1.5% power margin/ 0°C T5 margin error per -1% toque error
-0.9% power margin/ -0.3"C T5 margin error per -1"C OAT error
-0.4% power margin/ +1.O0CT5 margin error per -100 ft PA error
0% power margin/ -1.O°C T5 margin error per +1"C T5 error

To improve parameter stability, aircraft weight should be as high as

practical. Avoid cross wind, tail wind, gusts, wind shear or
performing procedure near structures. If N i varies greatly during
procedure, wait until it becomes stable. Avoid collective movements
particularly during the last 15 seconds of the power assurance
procedure.

If erroneous power assurance results due to parameter error are

suspected, perform operational cross check of parameters used to
calculate power assurance:

on entry speed. The aircraft should intercept the locoher and glide
slope smoothly and hold to less than 1/3 dot deviation. During the
approach check for the following:

(1) Proper phasing of the CDI.

(2) Proper phasing of the glide slope pointer on the AD1 (or EADI, if
equipped) and HSI (or EHSI, if equipped).

(3) Marker beacon light and audio at outer and middle marker.

follow the glide slope signal.

pitch will command airspeed redudion if required to achieve 750

c Initiate a back course approach. Tracking should be similar to the front

course. During the approach, decouple the aircraft and manually fly
off the beam 1/2 dot. Recouple and insure that the aircraft returns to
