Supplying, jointing and fixing G.I water pipe and fitting.

The detailed specification of supplying, jointing and fixing G.I water pipe and fitting is given
below:
a) Materials
The pipe shall be galvanized mild steel welded pipe or seamless pipe, screwed and socketed,
confirming to the requirement of I.S for medium grade. G.I pipe shall be of diameter specified in
the description of the item. The pipe, socket and fittings shall be well finished, galvanized and
free from cracks, surface flaws and other defects. Thread, fitting pipes shall be approved and
leak proof.
b) Cutting, threading, laying and jointing
When the G.I pipes are to be cut or threaded, the ends shall be carefully filled to confirm leak
proof joints. When the two pieces are screwed together the screw threads of pipe and fitting
shall be protected from damage. In joints the pipe inside the socket and screwed ends of the
pipe shall be oiled and rubbed with white lead, fine jute thread. The ends shall be tightly
screwed in the sockets, tee bends, etc with a pipe wrench. Care should be taken that all pipes
and fittings are properly joined so as to make the joint water tight. G.I pipe and fittings are kept
all time free from dust dirt during fixing. All the pipe shall be painted with anticorrosive
bitumen paint to prevent corrosion. At the time of laying pipe care should be taken to prevent
the entry of dirty water, soil etc inside pipe. The fiiting and the pipe shall run on surface of the
wall or conceal inside the wall and underground as specified. The wall surface fixing shall be
done by means of approved clamp of required shape and size so as to fit tightly as directed by
Engineer-in-charge.
c) Testing of pipe and joints
The pipe and fittings after they are laid shall be tested by hydraulic pressure of 6 kg/cm 2 and
flow of water. Any joints found leaking shall be removed and replaced free of cost. All joints
found leaking shall be removed and replaced free of cost. All sanitary and plumbing work shall
be carried out through licensed plumber.
d) Measurement
All G.I pipe and fittings shall be measured running meter (m) or running feet (Rf or feet) along
the center line of the pipe and fittings. Rate shall include pipe, fitting, labour all complete cost
and testing as described above.
Supplying, jointing and fixing P.V.C water pipe and fitting
The detailed specification of supplying, jointing and fixing G.I water pipe and fitting is given
below:
a) Material
1) Raw material
The material used in the manufacture of the pipe should be rigid polyvinyl chloride (P.V.C)
compound heated above 1800F become liquid moulded into required diameter and shape of
P.V.C pipes and fittings. The outer side wall of the pipe shall be of required thickness as
specified and tested by hydraulic pressure and required thread.
2) P.V.C pipe and fittings
These shall be of approved quality internal surface of P.V.C pipes and fittings and shall be of
smooth, free from scratch, scale, cracks and any type of damage. Pipe shall be loaded, unloaded
and stored carefully. All pipes and fittings which found defective should be rejected. Butt
welding with hot plates for fixed joints, plane bends, tee, etc. Thread joints and fittings shall be
properly finished and leak proof as per specification af the site-in-charge. The quality class mark
hydraulic pressure capacity shall be stamped on the pipe by the manufacturers.
b) Fixing, laying and clamping
The pipe shall be laid in plastic clamp grip and screwed on the surface of the wall laying of pipe
should be avoided near electric live wires, as far as possible. Pipe laying outside the building
must be placed one meter deep in the ground at the slope of 1 in 100. So, the waste water can
be drained easily.
c) Testing
Laid PVC pipes and fittings shall be inspected under pressure and flow of water. Any joints
found leaking shall be replaced with leak proof fittings free of cost as directed by the site
engineer-in-charge. All sanitary and plumbing work should be carried out through licensed
plumber.
Supplying, jointing and fixing HDP water pipe and fitting
The detailed specification of supplying and fixing of HDP pipe and fitting is given below:
a) Materials
1) Raw material
The plasticizers may be granular, fibrous, materials when heated above 3500C become liquid
moulded into required diameter and shape of HDP pipe and fittings. The outer side wall of the
pipe shall be 3 mm to 10 mm as specified and tested by hydraulic pressure and required thread.
2) HDP pipe and fittings
These shall be of approved quality internal surface of HDP pipe and fittings and shall be
smooth, free from scratch, cracks and any type of damage. Pipes shall be loaded, unloaded and
stored carefully. Any pipes and fitting which found defective shall be rejected. Butt welded with
hot plates for fixed joints, plane bends, Tee, etc. thread joints and fittings shall be properly
finished and leak proof as per specification of site engineer-in-charge. The quality, class mark
hydraulic pressure capacity shall be stamped on the pipe by the manufactures.
b) Fixing, laying and clamping

of the pipe. Rate shall be inclusive of cost of materials including labour and plumber cost.
Supplying, jointing and fixing PPR water pipe and fitting
a) Materials
1) Raw material
PP-R Pipes and fittings are made of Polypropylene Random Copolymer and designed for hot
and cold water supply systems and are also suitable for industrial water conveyance. The outer
side wall of the pipe shall be of required thickness as specified and tested by hydraulic pressure
and required thread.
2) PPR pipe and fittings
The inner-most layer of the pipe to be Anti–bacterial to prevent bacteria growth inside the pipe
surface. The outer-most layer to be of U.V. stabilized PP-R to prevent the pipe surface from
sunlight under exposed atmospheric conditions. The pipes should have smooth inner surface
with Non – contracting diameters. The pipes shall be cleanly finished, free from cracks and
other defects. Pipes shall be loaded, unloaded and stored carefully. Any pipes and fitting which
found defective shall be rejected. Any pipes and fitting which found defective shall be rejected.
Butt welded with hot plates for fixed joints, plane bends, Tee, etc. thread joints and fittings
shall be properly finished and leak proof as per specification of site engineer-in-charge.
c) Fixing, laying and clamping
For any internal works, the Polypropylene pipes and fittings shall be embedded in the wall
chase or run on the floor/ ceiling unless otherwise specified. No unsighted exposed runs shall
be permitted. Outside the building the piping shall be installed atleast 1.0 meter below the
finished grade level.
d) Testing
Layed HDP pipes and fittings shall be inspected under pressure and flow of water. Any joints
found leaking shall be replaced with leak proof fitting free of cost as directed by the site
engineer-in-charge. All sanitary and plumbing work should be carried out through licensed
plumber.
e) Measurement
All PPR pipes and fittings shall be measured in running meter (R.m or R.Ft) along the center line
of the pipe. Rate shall be inclusive of cost of materials including labour and plumber cost.

level flushing cistern.
Answer: The detailed specification of supplying and fixing of Indian pattern W.C pan including
low level flushing cistern is given below;
i) Material
a) Water closet pan
Water closet pan shall be either of white glazed earthen ware, white vitrous china clay (like
glass texture finish) or white glazed fire clay as specified. The pan shall be Orissa pattern sized
583 mm X 440 mm and 630 mm X 450 mm, long pan sized 630 mm and 580 mm and rural pan
425 mm length designed and approved by the engineer-in-charge. Each pan shall have flushing
rim of suitable type. The flushing rim and inlet shall be of self draining with weep holes at the
flushing inlet to the pan. The pan shall be provided with a 100 mm diameter cast iron trap ‘p’ or
‘s’ type outlet with at least 50 mm diameter water seal.
b) Low level flushing cistern
The flushing cistern shall be manually operated. The cistern may be porcelain (fine china clay)
as specified and shall have a removable cover. For low level flushing cistern the outlet shall be
40 mm diameter. The discharge rate of the flushing cistern shall be about 5 liters in 3 second.
The cistern shall have a discharge capacity of 10 or 15 liters as specified. The low level cistern
shall have maximum height of 30 cm between the top of pan and underside of cistern. All
working parts shall be designed to operate efficiently. Cistern shall be mosquito proof. The
siphonic action of flushing cistern shall be capable of being rapidly brought into action by
operating level but shall not be self siphon or leak.
ii) Fixing
a) Pan
The water closet pan is fixed at the floor level and floor is sloped towards the pan from all sides
so that waste water is drained through the pan. It is embedded in a cushion of required
thickness of cement concrete 1:5:10 as per drawing and site instruction. The joint between the
pan and the trap shall be made leak proof with cement sand mortar 1:1 or putty as per site
instruction.
b) Fixing of flushing cistern
The cistern shall be fixed on C.I or R.S cantilever brackets which shall be firmly embedded in the
wall in cement mortar 1:2 or fixed by using wooden plugs and screws. The flush pipe from
cistern shall be connected to the commode by means of putty or cement or approved material
joints. The flush pipe shall be fixed to the wall by using clamps. It shall also have inlet for
connecting the flush pipe.
iii) Testing
All sanitary and plumbing works shall be carried out through licensed plumber approved by
engineer in charge. All the joints and material should be properly tested and replaced if leak or
cracked free of cost.
iv) Measurement
Measurement shall be made in numbers, complete work as described above. Rate is including
all materials, labour cost and testing as described.
Write detailed specification of the supplying and fixing European pattern Water closet
(commode) including high level flushing cistern.
Answer: The detailed specification of European pattern water closet with high level cistern is
given below;
i) Material
a) European pattern water closet (commode)
Water closet (commode) shall be white glazed earthenware, white virtuous china clay or white
glazed fire clay as specified and shall be wash down type with Bakelite toilet seat cover lid with
C.P hinges and holding down bolts. The size and design shall be specified and approved by the
engineer in charge. At base of each commode there shall be four holes having a minimum
diameter of 6.5 mm for fixing to floor. Each commode shall have 100 mm diameter approved
brand type ‘p’ or ‘s’ outlet with at least 50 mm water seal. Inside surface of the commode and
traps shall be smooth and crack free. The joint between commode and trap shall be made leak
proof. European pattern water closet and trap should not be defective and cracked.
b) High level flushing cistern
The flushing cistern shall be manually operated. The cistern may be porcelain as specified and
shall have removable cover. In this case of high level cistern the outlet shall be 32mm diameter.
The discharge rate of the cistern shall be about 5 liters in 3 second. The cistern shall have a
discharge capacity of 10 or 15 liters as specified. The high level cistern shall have a height of 125
cm between the top of pan (commode) and underside of cistern. All working parts shall be
designed to operate efficiently. Cistern shall be mosquito proof. The siphonic action of flushing
cistern shall be capable of being rapidly brought into action by the operating level but shall not
be self siphonic or leak. All the joints shall be leak proof.
ii) Fixing
a) Water closet (commode)
The W.C commode shall be fixed to the floor using screw and belt tightly and cement mortar
1:2 as per drawing and site instruction. The joints between the commode and trap should be
leak proof with cement sand mortar 1:1 or putty as site instruction.
b) Flushing cistern
The cistern shall be fixed on C.I or R.S cantilever brackets which shall be firmly embedded in the
wall in cement mortar 1:2 or fixed by using wooden plugs or screws. The flush pipe from the
cistern shall be connected to the commode by means of putty or cement or approved material
joints. The flush pipe shall be fixed to the wall by using clamps. It shall also have inlet for
connecting the flush pipe.
iii) Testing
All the sanitary and plumbing works shall be carried out thorough licensed plumbers approved
by engineer-in-charge.
iv) Measurement
Measurement shall be made in numbers, complete work as described above. Rate is including
all materials, labour cost and testing as described.

Write detailed specification of the supplying and fixing wash basin complete set.
Answer: The detailed specification of supplying and fixing of wash basin complete set is as
follows:
i) Material
Wash basin shall be white glazed earthenware, white vitreous china clay or white glazed fire
clay as specified. The size of the basin may be 63 cm X 45 cm or 55 cm X 40 cm for flat back. For
angle back the size may be 60 cm X 40 cm or 40 cm X 40 cm. Basin shall be provided with single
or double tap holes as specified. Each basin shall be provided and fixed with approved brand 32
mm diameter waste fittings. To discharge the waste water from basin 32 mm dia. G.I waste
pipe coupling at one end is fitted. Each basin shall have soap holder recess, one 15 mm dia C.P
brass pillar taps, one C.P stop cock, one plastic connecting pipe on the supply line. All the waste
fitting shall be of approved quantity chromium plated. A sample of each kind of fitting shall be
approved by the engineer-in-charge and all supply made according to approved samples.
ii) Fixing
The height of the front edge of the wash basin from the floor level shall be 80 cm. The basin
shall be supported on a pair of R.S or C.I cantilever brackets or fixed in position by means of
wooden plug or screw. White glazed pedestals for wash basin shall be provided where specified
with quality and color same as that of basin and capable of supporting the basin rigidly and
adequately and also designed to make height 75 to 80 cm from floor to the top of rim.
iii) Testing
All sanitary and plumbing works shall be carried out through licensed plumber on completion of
the work, the site shall be cleaned.
iv) Measurement
The wash basin and pedestals should be measure in numbers. Rate shall be calculated including
materials and labour cost as described.
