TITLE
It is notice that, most the drainage canals along the coast that runs into villages are
becoming covered with vegetation. Since farming is one the main activity practices
by persons on the coast, it is believed that the improper disposal methods of farm
wastes could be the main reason for the excessive growth of vegetation observed
growing in water bodies in villages along the coast.
Since waste from animals could be of good use, this study wishes to investigate
waste production and management within four agricultural entries situated along the
Coast. More specifically the objectives of this investigation are:
To find out what type of product is being produced or rare at the farm.
To investigate what are the main waste being produced at the farm?
To observe if and how, the methods of waste disposal used affects the
environment.
To analyzed water sample for the drainage canal for water quality parameters

BACKGROUND:
President’s College farm located in the Village of Golden Grove, is a mixed farm that does cattle,
swine, poultry rearing and some amount of crop farming. The farm originated around the same time
as the college itself in the year 1985. The farm is a part of the late president of Guyana Linden
Sampson Forbes Burnham’s dream for a brighter future for the citizens of Guyana. The farm was
made with the intended purpose of ensuring that the college is self-sufficient and that the students
were well rounded in all academic areas specifically agriculture. Breeds of animals were imported
from various parts of the country and even overseas to encourage mixed breeding and other
developing agricultural practices at the time. The farm not only produced products for the college’s
but also for local sales which made profits that is sufficient in helping the farm manage its resources.
