2.0 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Mobile applications (also known as mobile apps) are software programs developed

for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. They turn mobile devices into miniature

powerhouses of function and fun. Usage of mobile apps has become increasingly prevalent

across mobile phone users. (Ludwig, 2012) A may 2012 comScore study reported that during

the previous quarter, more mobile subscribers used apps than browsed the web on their

devices: 51% vs. 49.8% respectively. (Perez, 2012) The importance of mobile phones in our

everyday life and activities is undeniably unending. This is because there is ongoing

tremendous transformation in that mobile phones are no longer the ordinary

communication device it used to be. It has become the colossal point of attention for

individuals and businesses alike, courtesy of the various incredible features and

opportunities that mobile phones offer. The cumulative progress of mobile technology, the

availability and access to high speed internet and the remarkable communicative interface

in these devices results into a whole level of new and innovative experience mobile

computing. This is made possible through the development of mobile applications. (Oza,

2017) Geolocation (GPS) is a way to locate your position on this earth, at short, it tries to look

your coordinate (latitude, longitude), and also altitude if available. (mycurrentlocation.net,

2015) Waze is GPS navigation software that works on smartphones and tablets with GPS
support and provides turn-by-turn navigation information and user-submitted travel times

and route details, while downloading location-dependent information over a mobile

telephone network. Waze describes its app as a community-driven GPS navigation app,

which is free to download and use. (wikipedia, 2018) Now as part of the topic, we should go

to our main target. A car as daily necessity, commutes, day trips and travel, luxury.

Purchasing a vehicle is perhaps one of the largest investment you will ever make, second to

the purchase of your home. Therefore, your vehicle isn’t just a vehicle, it’s like property. Even

after purchasing a vehicle, people spend plenty of time in their car during commutes. Cars

are a worthwhile investment more than just getting you from point A to point B.

vehicle, repairs and auto maintenance, fuel, depreciation, driving time, parking fees, taxes,

and insurance, are weighed against the cost of the alternatives, and the value of the benefits

– perceived and real – of vehicle usage. The benefits may include on – demand

transportation, mobility, independence and convenience. (Setright, 2004) As a vehicle

owner it is vitally important that you are carrying out regular maintenance on your vehicle.

Without proper maintenance, your vehicle will be a lot more likely to be prone to more

serious problems in the future that could lead to you being greatly out of pocket. By

performing routine maintenance on your vehicle, it will highly reduce the risk of serious

problems occurring in the future as well as improving the driving quality of your vehicle.

Many vehicle owners fail to perform the necessary vehicle maintenance tasks that are so

important due to ignorance, lack of awareness or even laziness. Car maintenance is not a

difficult task for most drivers. Even drivers with limited motor knowledge are able to

perform maintenance tasks such as checking your tire pressures, changing the oil, and
checking other engine fluids in your vehicle. If some of these maintenance tasks make you a

bit uneasy, then you can check the vehicle handbook that comes with every vehicle for

advice, or even ask someone with a bit more knowledge for assistance. But it is crucial that

in one way or another, you are carrying out regular maintenance. There are a number of

vehicle maintenance tasks that need to be performed on a regular basis to prevent serious

damage to your vehicle. These tasks can be performed by you yourself so there is no excuse

for failing to do so. Some of the most important maintenance tasks that every driver should

be carrying out are as follows: Regular fluid checks – it is vital to regularly check your fluid

levels such as your oil, transmission fluid and engine coolant. If you find that any of these are

running low, it is important to add the required fluids immediately. Failure to do so can lead

to the engine failing due to overheating. Regular oil changes – the oil is the life of your engine

so firstly it is important that you ensure that the oil levels are sufficient enough to allow the

engine to run smoothly. Also, the oil should be changed about every 3000 miles to ensure the

best performance of your engine and to avoid possible engine problems. Check tire pressures

– checking the amount of air in each of your tires is also an important part of vehicle

maintenance. Not having the correct tire pressure can lead to excess tire wear and result in

you having to change your tires more regularly. Having too much air in the tires can also be

a problem, as it can leave the tires more prone to blowing out. You can check the ideal tire

pressures for your vehicle by referring to your vehicle handbook.

Check the engine air filter – having a dirty air filter can shorten the life of an engine and also

reduce your gasoline’s mileage by up to 10%. You can clean out your engine’s air filter just

by blowing off any accumulated dust that may have gathered with an air hose. By at least

performing these maintenance tasks on a regular basis will reduce the chances of more
serious problems occurring with your vehicle. It may seem like a chore to some drivers, but

the consequences of failing to do so can leave you with a great expense as well as putting

your safety at risk. (Factors)

2.1 Synthesis

The unit of analysis in the discussion above is the car owner. Corresponding to the

users need and demand. The requirements for this application should have revelance to the

certain place and time. Related to place can be handled by GPS navigation. As the device

knows where is the current location of the car users position, the user must search or look

to a specific location to tag or assign a geographical location for the application to find the

right destination of the user. Related to time can be handled by the device’s clock and the

time function. The use of the application is to help and give information to the users and to

check the review of the shops. This project proposal will only focus on searching the nearby

gas stations, car wash, mechanic shop, and tires and supply. We would like to implement the

Car Needs Finder Application to solve the problem of the car owners of finding the best shop

for maintaining their car needs.
