Section 1 Dry pigments
DRY PIGMENTS are fine coloured particles of different chemical origins, which are used to produce the colour in all different types of paints. In the past, the
majority of pigments used by artists came from natural sources. Today however, with the progress of modern chemistry, the artist's palette has grown
considerably through the introduction of new pigments such as cadmiums, cobalts, titanium and organics. Working with dry pigments enables artists to make
their own paints according to their specific tastes and expectations. Operating our business has taught us that it is more economical to make your own
paints, and that you can get higher quality products than you would by buying mainstream ready-made materials. All of the paints manufactured and sold by
us are made from our dry pigments. Our range of colours only includes pigments that we have selected both for their chemical purity and light fastness.

Aqua-Dispersions
the aqua-dispersions
AQUA-DISPERSIONS are finely ground pigments in an
aqueous (water) solution which enables you to make
any kind of water based paint.
Aqua-Dispersions in kits
Theses are made for the same colors of dispersions but sold in 15 ml bottles.
Siccative oils
Siccative oils are the binders of the oil painting technique. Unlike water based paints, these oils dry by oxidation (chemical reaction), which means that they
absorb oxygen to go from a liquid to a solid state, thus binding the pigments they contain onto a canvas or support.
Cold pressed linseed oil is the binder of choice to prepare your oil paints. It is better than raw linseed or alkali refined linseed oil, because cold pressed
linseed oil is prepared at low temperature to avoid oxidation when pressing the flaxseeds. Less oil is obtained that way, but cold pressed oil yellows
considerably less and exhibits better flexibility over time than refined linseed oil. Walnut oil is semi-siccative oil that yellows even less than cold pressed
linseed oils. This is due to the fact that this oil is semi-siccative and takes considerably longer to dry. Stand oil (polymerised linseed oil) is used in the
manufacture of painting mediums because of its higher viscosity, solidity, flexibility and also because it doesn’t yellow as much as raw linseed oil. Pale
double boiled linseed oil may also be used in some painting mediums but it is generally used in wood finishing.
Acrylic binders
This section includes binders which you can use to create home made acrylic paints by mixing them with Aqua-dispersions, or dry pigments previously
dispersed in water (or alcohol for organic pigments). Acrylic paints that you prepare yourself will have both the characteristics of the binder you will use and
the colour of the pigments you add.
Canadian balsam is a pale slow drying resin that yields a hard, clear and glossy finish when used in the preparation of painting
mediums and varnishes. Furthermore, Canadian balsam is a good replacement for Larch turpentine or Venice turpentine that
are significantly more expensive materials.

Section 2 Solvents
Solvents
Kama Pigments is proud to introduce a new line of solvents for oil painting, encaustics, wood
finishing and other "oil techniques". Everybody knows oil painting is one of the most ancient and
permanent technique there is. However, today many artists are turning away from it for "toxicity
reasons". But really, what is so toxic about oils ? Oil paint is simply a mixture of two things: a
pigment (which is the same for any painting technique)1 and linseed oil (a vegetable oil, both
natural and edible !)
In fact, if so many are moving away from oils today it is mainly because traditional solvents are
raising major health concerns for artists who use them, thus the oil painting technique is
abandoned. In our new line, we are proposing 3 new solvents. Of gradual intensity, they allow the
artist to chose both the appropriate strength and toxicity level of the solvent he uses: the mildest
solvent, IZOSOL is used to dillute oil paints and clean painting tools. The second solvent, ORANGE
SPIRIT, is used as a turpentine replacement to dilute ready-made paintings mediums. The last
solvent, and the most potent, is ORANGINE and it is used to melt natural resins such as damar.

Encaustic paints
Encaustic is a paint made using beeswax. In order to use the "hot" wax technique, a hotplate or stovetop is necessary to melt the wax-based colours and keep them
warm so that they retain their fluidity. Kama encaustic colours are made using the same high quality pigments as our other products, without the addition of any fillers
or adulterants. The inclusion of dammar resin in our formulation creates a film with greater transparency and hardness. We do not use turpentine or any other solvent in
the manufacture of these colours; therefore no toxic emissions are produced by these encaustic when they are melted. The high concentration of pigments in our paint
will enable you to achieve a high level of opacity if it is applied in its pure form. However you may also make them more transparent by adding beeswax or other
compatible mediums when painting.

roughness of your muller, ask us about getting extra abrasive.

Paint roller system "EXPERT". -NEW!
This professional European system of paint roller allows outstanding
results while lasting longer than ordinary rollers. The rolling bearings
system is replaced each time you change the roller because it is
inside the roller.
The longer handle makes it possible to paint bigger surfaces
without bending. Theses rollers are ideal tools to apply the gesso
coat on canvases or panels.
