8:45 - 9:00 Assemble in classroom, Mark roll and ensure group numbers match supervisors Ensure all students are wearing safe appropriate clothing and closed in shoes Ensure all students have water bottle Ensure each group has their ‘Student Booklet’ Walk over to basketball court 9:00 – 9:30 (10 Teacher: Welcome everyone and introduce guests. mins talk each) Presentation and questioning from the following experts in the field: Navy Officer from - Training ship Pioneer Navy Cadets - Talk about push and pull forces with boats and their designs Army Officer from – Komiatum Barracks Military Base – Talk about push and pull forces with parachutes and their designs Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elder from Mackay’s native indigenous tribe the Yuibera people – Talk about traditional dug out canoes and children’s spinning tops and their push and pull forces. 9:30 – 10:00 Split into groups and start first rotation (set timer) (2 x parents / teacher aides with each group) Navy Officer - Stay at boat building station Army Officer – Stay at Parachute building station Indigenous Elder – Stay at push and pull toy station 10:00 – 10:30 Morning Tea provided by P & C (plated by tuckshop) 10:30 – 11:00 Reconvene in same groups. Moving in a clockwise fashion each group will move onto the next activity. All helpers will stay with their groups. All guest experts will stay at their station. (set timer) 11:00-11:30 Rotate onto third and final activity (set timer) 11:30 – 12:00 Guest experts will pick the winning boat, parachute and push and pull toy. These three winners will be demonstrated and an expert opinion into why they are scientifically the winners. Students will receive their prize. Teacher: Thank guest experts for coming in. 12:00 Lunch break for students 12:00 – 12:30 Teacher and Teacher Aides to pack up.

Please stay with your group as they rotate around the activities Please DO NOT influence the children as to how to construct their boat / parachute / toy. They will be marked on this and it needs to be their own work Please do scribe for students who do not feel confident or have illegible writing You may help students at their direction to hold objects or sticky tape what they ask Enjoy your morning tea Thank you for your help.
