LESSON PLAN IN DISASTER READINESS AND RISK REDUCTION

Semester: Second
Core Subject: Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction
Lesson: Exposure and Vulnerability
Date: November 27, 2017
Time Allotment: 70 minutes
Grade: Grade 12
Section/s and Time: St. Augustine (9:45am – 10:55 am)
St. Elizabeth (10:55am – 12:05 pm) MWF

CONTENT STANDARD: The students will have an understanding of the Concept of disaster
and Concept of disaster risk.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners conduct hazard hunts of exposed elements and
propose corresponding corrective actions for one’s preparedness.

I. Learning Competencies
By the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
Enumerate elements exposed to hazards;
Explain the meaning of vulnerability.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Exposure and Vulnerability
Materials: Laptop, TV, PowerPoint Presentation, Manila Paper and Marker

III. Learning Tasks


ROUTINES
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Attendance Checking
 Classroom Management

ACTIVITY
This will be a group activity:
1. The learners will be grouped into 5.
2. Each group will be given a picture about exposure and vulnerability.
3. The group will analyze the pictures and tell something about it.

ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the following questions based on the students’ activity:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Based on what you know, what is exposure and vulnerability?
3. Are they destructive? Why? Why not?

ABSTRACTION
Discussion on Concept of Exposure and Vulnerability.

Generalization
1. What is exposure?
2. What is vulnerability?
3. How are they connected?
4. What are the different types of vulnerability?

APPLICATION
Answer the following questions.
1. Enumerate the different elements exposed to hazards.
2. Explain what vulnerability means.
3. Explain environmental and physical vulnerability.

IV. Assessment
Paper and Pencil Test
Accomplish the following table below. Identify the different elements that are exposed to a
particular hazard and briefly state their vulnerabilities.

V. Assignment
Conduct a simple research about Guadalupe Bridge in Edsa. Analyze and explain
why it is more vulnerable to earthquake as compared to other bridges in Metro
Manila.
