Gravity CRA

​In the movie Gravity, Newton’s 3 laws are being precisely portrayed and that gives us an

accurate representation in which we can relate to class activities that we’ve done to prove that

they are correct.

To prove that the first law was shown, we went to clip #2 and the timestamp of (1:15).

What occurs in the clip is that she drifts into space and she constantly spins, that is a clear sign of

inertia. Newton’s first law of inertia states that “An object will remain at rest and an object in

motion stays in motion unless acted upon with an unbalanced force.” what we saw in class that

relates to Newton’s first law of inertia is when we saw the video of the ball in space and how the

guy blew air at it and it moved away but it’s state of motion never changed as it moved, it had

the same speed and direction.

For the second evidence, I used the fire extinguisher scenes with the timestamp of (2:23).

She rotates the handle to enter the shuttle. Basically what Newton’s 2nd law is a relationship

between Force, Mass, and Acceleration in a mathematical way. What we saw in class that relates

to this clip is when we used a ramp and put the ball at the top and let it slide down and hit the car

and the car accelerates due to it having little mass and the ball having all that force at the high

speed when it hits the car. The handle has a large mass and as she rotates it, the acceleration

increases.
 For the 3rd and final evidence, we used the fire extinguisher scene with the timestamp of

(0:40). What occurs in the clip is that she needs to get to the satellite and so she has to use a fire

extinguisher to boost her way to it. Newton’s 3rd law says that for every force, there is an equal

and opposite force. In class we had a scenario that relates to it. When we had 2 students push

each other on the carts. Student A pushes Student B and as Student B moves, there was a force

that pushed Student A back immediately after pushing Student B. In the movie, the extinguisher

pushes her back forcefully after shooting it.

In conclusion, the movie ​Gravity​ includes very accurate representations of Newton’s 3

laws in which we included our evidence and tied it up with activities we did in class to prove it’s

accuracy.

Comments: Jose, you have a very clear way of writing. You definitely started to have some

really good reasoning. However, there are a few problems. Follow the directions, so use Arial

font! Also, you really need to proofread your essay so you don’t have as many run ons and

grammar issues. More description of the clips and more reasoning, particularly in your

Newton’s 1st Law paragraph, would have probably gotten you an advanced score.
