Reflection:
In the second assignment, we mainly focus on the collection and analysis of data from surveys of the
implementation process through the implementation of online and offline form. Through the
implementation of this second mission, we learned some useful skills to help us complete this study in the
best way. For this assignment, the main task is the analysis of the findings from the survey in assignment
1. Specifically in this article is to investigate the need to do more of the students of the University in the
city of Da Nang. Additionally, we further improved the skills and process the chart through the software
SPSS. Based on the sample charts and graphs, we can read through the knowledge based application and
the software that is SPSS. Besides, we also further improve team work skills. Given the conclusions based
on the consent of the members of the same group. In addition, we rely on the basis, of data to give
introductory information, theory, the present restrictions and direction to solve the problem.

Contribution:

In this second mission, I have used SPSS software to solve some of the table as the table: 11. The more
jobs you often choose to do? Including the options related to some work such as: sales online, write
articles online, blogger or streamer, serve, shipper and tutor. Table 21 levels of the students about the
risks when finding work part-time. There are also questions such as: If you're going to do more then you
do how many days of the week or part-time job have encountered many difficulties. In addition, I am also
responsible for writing and introduce conclusion of the assignment. Besides, I also use power point
software for the purpose of group presentations.

I. Introduction:
1. Background and the reason choose topic:
Currently in our country, there are about 900,000 students in universities and colleges. Two-
thirds of these are non-provincial students, so for these students to be able to study every month
apart from a school session, half of the time they spend on part-time jobs. In addition, in fact,
there are very well-off family students still looking for part-time jobs. This proves that, in
addition to income, they see it as an opportunity to train skills, accumulate experiences that
schools can't help them to acquire.

However, there are still many shortcomings in the field of students' part-time work, such as
limited ability to find part-time jobs, students have received little support from the school.

6
Therefore, the topic "Survey of students' need to do part-time jobs at Da Nang" is really
necessary to help Da Nang students find suitable jobs for their majors.

2. Objectives of the study:

For the university: creating opportunities, practical playgrounds for students to practice, applying
the theory learned into practice. This research will improve the quality of students in Business
Administration Faculty in private and students in Da Nang in general.

For the students: This research shows the positive and negative in the part-time work of students,
this helps students become more active and formed thinking ability to solve problems as well as
orienting students to find suitable jobs in the future.

3. Scope
• Research subjects: Students of universities or colleges in Danang.
• Duration time: The survey takes place from March 28, 2019 to April 2, 2019.
• The content of the study includes: providing evidence of the factors that directly affect
students' decision to work part-time, the risks and benefits of part-time work to help
students understand the current status of part-time work, thus giving specific plans to
balance the life between learning and doing.

II. Literature Overview:

1. Definition of Part-time jobs:
Tessema, Ready and Astani (2014) said that Part-time jobs for students mean participation in
working while still in school at companies, organizations, units, households for the purpose of
having extra income or the goal of learning, accumulating experience, closer to real life.

Endsleigh (2015) defined the part-time job is simply that students actively participate in social
activities at organizations inside and outside the school to accumulate experience and income for
themselves.

The above are some concepts of part-time jobs for current students, from which, Part-time
employment for students means participation in working while still in school at companies,
organizations without being prohibited by law, with the aim of having more income or with the
another goal.

7
2. The Purpose - The situation of part-time jobs for students:
2.1 The Purpose of part-time work
With the development of the market economy, especially after Da Nang is building a smart city,
it is not too difficult for students to get a Part-time job. To better understand the purpose of Da
Nang students deciding to work part-time, we have raised questions such as: " Do you do part-
time job with your major? " , "What is your level of consent for choice of paid jobs over time or
as a result?", " What is the level of agreement on the impact of factors on your part-time work? ",
in the survey form to clarify the issue we care about.

Some studies on this issue have been done by some authors like:

John B. Boshoven, an advisor to continuing education at Community High School in Michigan

(2015) said that the cost of college is often higher than that of a high school so students want to
use their income my pay for life issues. Indeed, students have many problems that need to be
spent but cannot call home to parents, students have to work more to earn extra income to reduce
the burden of school expenses for the family.

Next, Darlena's study (2018) shows that part-time work is a perfect way to practice the
knowledge and skills students have learned at school. Therefore, a part-time job related to
students' specialties is helping them to have more opportunities to work and not be ambiguous
when they graduate.

In contrast, according to Andrew's study (2015), students work part-time to have more social
relationships and practice adaptability to the workplace. When students start part-time work,
they will know more colleagues and have the opportunity to expand the relationships where
they work, besides the working environment greatly influences the promotion of an employee.

2.2 The situation:

77% of UK students have been working part-time. In addition, Endsleigh also found that 53%
of the students depend on the financial resources of their parents to pay for college, the
remaining 46% use their income to pay for college. However, many students have better-off
families but still want to work part-time for many purpose, most of them (80%) want to increase
practical experience Endsleigh (2015). Therefore, in order to grasp the current status of part-

8
time work of students in Da Nang, we have asked the following questions in the survey form to
clarify the problem: "The situation of your current part time job?", “During college, do you
think students should be part-time?”.

3. Diversity in part-time job options for students

It is not difficult for students to find part-time jobs. With the keyword "Part-time job" only 0.32 s
google has produced about 153,000 results. The following questions are set to identify the type
of part-time jobs paid attention by Da Nang students such as: "Do you ever think about following
part-time jobs according to the current trend? (The prevailing jobs in the market) ", "Which part-
time jobs are most dominant in your opinion?", "What part-time jobs do you often choose to
do?"

According to Team Localwise's research (2018) with students in the UK, the most popular type
of job is tutoring for students in grades (41.5%) because it is easy to find, takes less time, cost
and effort. Next is sale (22%). The percentage of students who choose waiters at restaurants or
coffee accounts for (20%), the remaining percentage chooses other types of jobs.

4. Part-time job support channels.

According to Hoa's research (2018), there are four ways to help students find the fastest part-
time job is to search online recruitment channels, through friends, relatives and job
recommendation centers, business website. About 40% of students seek jobs on online
recruitment channels. 30% of students get jobs through family and friends because in fact, these
jobs are often prioritized for acquaintances or employees in the company. 20% of students go
through job placement centers to find suitable jobs. 10% of students will search directly on
business websites.

In this survey, employment center issues and recruitment information channels are mentioned in
questions “What is the impact of communication channels in finding your part-time job?” and
“What do you think about job recommendation centers?”. The survey offers these questions to
assess the level of trustworthiness of the job introduction center and determine if students seek
jobs through any form of communication channels.

9
5. Income
The current salary of part-time jobs of very low students ranges from 8,000-15,000 / 1 hour, on
average 4-5 working days per day. But now there are many foreign cafes or companies paying
high salaries for part time jobs of 15,000-20,000 / 1 hour help students to afford life (Viet, 2018).

“What salary do you want to receive when working part-time?” “What salary do you get when
working part-time?” There are two questions related to income to survey and assess the current
salary of part-time jobs that students can receive.

6. Risks during the process of students working part time.

Students who are attending school are often the target for employers to aim for cheap, easy-to-
exploit wages. Students are often paid not according to the number of hours they have done in
many ways such as delaying pay or deduction for unreasonable reasons given by the employer.
Besides, students on the job are often forced by employers to do jobs that are not included in the
contract but of course they will not be paid any extra salary. Secondly are bogus company and
Multilevel. Students often encounter traps from bogus companies with unclear recruitment
content but with very high salaries. This has left many students high income desires tricked into
and involved in legal problems. (Nam, 2018)

“Your level of consent to the risks you face when looking for a part-time job." Is the question in
the survey to grasp the risks of working part time of students then have appropriate solutions.

III. Research model and methodology:

1. Methodology:
In this report, the two research methods used are mainly descriptive statistics in Spss software
and statistical graphs.

• Data were entered and analyzed via SPSS with Methods: Descriptive statistics
(estimated), Testing: dependent samples, independent, one sample T-test, ...
• Statistical graphs use data combined with drawings, lines or colors to summarize and
present the key features of the research phenomenon.

2. Data collection:
The income data used in the study is divided into primary data and secondary data.

10
• Primary data is obtained through online surveys from google form (link:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYFoTj_qoS260zflC2PIVHYV7QC4r
MYlbM77tLA3YcqaEg7A/viewform) for 70 people and 30 offline users by
distributing survey leaflets to students at universities in Danang.
• Secondary data is obtained through selective information from the research done,
articles, books, and discussions on the topic of part-time work by students by other
authors.

3. Research hypothesis:
• In order to assess the correlation relationship between wage payment over time or results, the
following hypothesis pair is given:
+ Hypothesis H1.0: Time and result is not correlation relationship
+ Hypothesis H1.1: Time and result is correlation relationship
• In order to assess the impact of social networks in the search for part-time jobs for Da Nang
students, the following hypothesis pairs are given:
+ Hypothesis H1.2: Social network is the most support channel in the process of finding part-
time jobs of Danang students (H1.2 ≥ 3,5).
+ Hypothesis H1.3: Social network isn’t the most support channel in the process of finding
part-time jobs of Danang students ( H1.3 < 3,5).
• In order to test the degree of impact of risks on part-time jobs for students, the following
hypothesis pair is given:
+ Hypothesis H1.4: The impact level of risks affecting the part-time working process = 3
+ Hypothesis H1.5: The impact level of risks affecting the part-time working process # 3
• To assess that mean of the salary most students want to receive when working part-time is
2,000,000 million VND, the following hypothesis pair is given:
+Hypothesis H1.6: The salary most students want to receive = 2,000,000 million VND
+Hypothesis H1.7: The salary most students want to receive # 2,000,000 million VND

IV. Results:
1. The situation of part-time jobs for students:
Through chart 1.1 and 1.2, we see that the percentage of students who have been working part-
time occupying 86%, have never worked for 14%. Thereby we see that the part-time job has

11
Chart 1.2 The suitability of part time work with major in university

become popular with students in Da Nang. Besides that, almost students choose to work part-
time as opposed to their studies (80,2%), 4 times the percentage of students working part-time
according to their major (19,8%). This finding is consistent with previous studies of Endsleigh
(2015). For students who do more jobs in accordance with the industry they are studying, this is
very helpful for professional development but most students find it difficult to find a part-time
job suitable for their major. Because of that, universities should link as well as organize field
trips to connect businesses, employers and students who are looking for jobs according to their
major.

Chart 1.1 Status of part-time work of students

12
In table 1 below, we see that sig = 0.001 < 5% so rejecting the hypothesis H1.0 and hypothesis
H1.1 is accepted. At the 5% significance level, the correlation index is between time and the result
is 0.367. This data shows that the correlation between pair of factors is quite weak because it is
not close to 1. We conclude that students with the desired level of pay over time do not mean the
desire to be paid on results and vice versa. According to Miriam's research (2019) Depending on
the requirements and management level, enterprises can calculate the time wage such as the
monthly salary, daily salary, hourly salary. Most students are now paid monthly and students
expect to be paid by time because it is easy to arrange their studies. Monthly salary is the amount
of salary prescribed for each salary level on the salary scales paid to monthly employees.

Based on table 2, we see the waitress frequency of 43 times selected by many students, we
conclude that waitress is the most popular part-time job by students. Characteristics of this work
are shift work so it is flexible in time, students easily arrange a study schedule. This finding is
the same as empirical research result of Lily (2018) Serving as a waitress will help students be
more agile and more active in their behavior, increase their ability to communicate. For staff,
students should create for themselves an agile style, neat clothes, careful virtue and a friendly
smile.

2. The purpose of part-time work:

Based on Table 3, the results show that the Income is the most important reason affecting the
job-selective behavior. Students assess income at 5 points on a scale of 1 to 5 (chart 1.3).
Because High-paying jobs will attract more students, especially those in difficult circumstances,
Students will get a financial monthly serving personal needs and no longer dependent on family
too much. The second concern after income is experience. This finding is not consistent with
previous studies of Miriam (2019) said that 43% of the students said that they just worked part-
time to gain experience to get better jobs after graduation. China leads the way, with 75% of

14
students working to gain experience, compared to only 24% in the UK. Other factors are highly
appreciated by students at 3 points on a scale of 1 to 5.

3. Part-time job support channels:
Based on table 5, the sig value of social networks = 0.191 > 5% so the hypothesis H1.2 is
accepted. In other word, we see that Social networks are the most used channels for students in
the process of finding part-time jobs. Most students rated 5 points on a scale of 1 to 5 on social
network support during their job search (Chart 1.4). This finding is similar to the findings of
Kosaidor carrer (2018) social network helped users can access information and submit
applications quickly and easily. Students can also make use of social media to promote their
image and ability as well as to communicate directly with employers through various ways of
communication. The result is different from research findings of Pellizzari (2010) said that
Relationships can bring great part-time job opportunities, some good jobs are not public, but
there are priorities if there is a close relationship

4. The impact of part time work on learning:

The results of table 6 show that 100% of students choose Arrange priority time for learning
instead of Leave school to go to work. The studies of Magda (2014) shown that doing part-time

17
over 20 hours per week will negatively affect student scores. However, this study also shows that
students who have more hours of 10-19 hours per week have better results than other students.
Doing part-time is a legitimate need to be helpful for students but only if they know how to
allocate and arrange a reasonable time, otherwise it will cause a lot of unfortunate effects.

Through the results below (Chart 1.7), about 75% of students think that part-time jobs do not
affect their schooling because they can balance their time to work and study time. About 25% of
students think that part-time jobs affect learning because they think that part-time work will take
time and health which affects learning outcomes. This finding is not the same as empirical
research result of Magda (2014) Students spend most of their time working part-time - an
average of 3.4 hours per day, more than they spend time lecturing and studying groups (2.7
hours), study at home (2.5 hours) or at the library (1.6 hours). Learning is one of the reasons
affecting the decision of students who choose not to work.

5. Common risks:
According to the results of data processing in Table 7, we have enough evidence to accept the
hypothesis H1.4 (at the significance level of 95%) because sig of the risks stated are> 5%. Thus,
the impact level of the above mentioned risks is equal to 3. Besides, cheap labor, easy to exploit
and Multi-level marketing, scale scams have the mean are the greatest value, so these two risks
affect the most to the part-time job of students. According to Tonish Vietnam (2018), the status
of bogus companies has recruitment information with unclear contents of work, time and
location. Instead, it is just the high salary figures that attract the students or students are often
lured by multi-level organizing companies, they often have to spend a large amount of money to
invest but not get anything back.

Knowledge and skills are the most appreciated factors for students when they work part-time.
Looking at Table 8, the average value of knowledge and skills = 3.8235 is higher than other
factors, indicating student satisfaction with income as well as experience from selling jobs is
high in scale 1 to 5. Acoording to Hoa(2018) said that Not only is confidence, not only
communicating but also working part-time to help students practice their own skills. Their
knowledge will be honed and improved when students work with good colleagues. Speaking
skills, office skills, English ... all are trained to be more wonderful.

6. Desired salary:
Based on table 9, we see that 2,000,000 VND = 0,011 <5%, hypothesis H1.7 is accepted, H1.6
hypothesis is rejected. Based on the mean = 2.233.333, we can conclude that the expected salary
of students per month ranges from 2,200,000-2,500,000 VND. Students are always faced with
financial challenges in addition to paying tuition, they also need money to live or spend on

20
entertainment, so they are always inclined to find high-paying jobs to meet all the expenses. That
fee is not dependent on the family, which is from income part-time jobs.

Although the desired salary of students is two million dong per month and tends to be higher
(chart 1.7). But the average income earned by students is still VND 2 million. According to Viet
(2018), the low time salary is about 8-15,000 / 1 hour, so the students' monthly salary falls
between 950,000 and 2 million (in case of making 30 days). Many individuals or business
owners choose to hire workers as students because Students often have to do many other jobs
outside of the contract or do more than the number of hours specified in the contract without
receiving any more Tonish Vietnam (2018).

21
V. Discussion and Conclusion:
1. Solutions:
From the results of the survey, showing the difficulties as well as the risks of working while
looking for part-time jobs, therefore, the survey team proposes some ideas as well as solutions to
help students.

• Solution 1: Establishing clubs and organizations to help students find jobs easily. The club
will accompany students to create more job opportunities for students. The main task of this
club is to help students orient their careers, as well as to choose good and safe jobs for
students. In addition, the club will help students get closer to the way of small and medium
enterprises in the area by supporting and introducing jobs for students.
• Solution 2: Universities should have short-term training courses on soft and foreign language
skills for students in accordance with the needs and standards of employers. For example, if
students want to choose to work for a foreign environment, these companies will have very
high requirements for coping skills, skills to handle situations, creativity and foreign
language ability. Therefore, it is necessary to open short-term training courses for students to
help some students in difficult circumstances who cannot register soft skills classes outside
the school.

22
• Solution 3: need to improve the efficiency and reputation of job introduction centers, these
centers should have a close link between students and employers, giving students many job
opportunities that students have can be easily selected. The effectiveness of improved job
referral centers will be very beneficial for students because students will easily find jobs from
small and medium enterprises in the locality because of the opportunity to interact with
businesses of student is very low.

2. Conclusions:
Through the research, part time work is becoming a trend with students. Students working part
time in addition to earning extra income, they also want to practice reality and add knowledge
and skills. Part time jobs helps students to practice many soft skills for the future work, but it is
difficult to choose part time jobs suitable to the field of study because each student has a need to
earn different jobs and working environments. Most students find their part-time jobs through
channels and friends, indicating that the supportive role of the school is very limited. In
summary, this survey is very useful and meaningful because it helps identify the needs of part
time jobs as well as the difficulties and risks students encounter when looking for part time jobs,
from which they can be made comments help students find suitable, safe jobs and avoid risks.
Students need to know how to handle and select part time jobs as well as time spent working to
get the best results. Students should choose the right part-time job for their field of study that
helps they improve life skills or ability to communicate in English because these jobs will help
students for future.
